Copied from Hoopshype.

It's going to be very hard to beat the Kings without KAT.

Yes and no. Was talking with my brother about this. Of all the games he has to miss, this one might not be the worst. Start NAW move Ant and Jaden up a position. Now you have a bit more of a run with them lineup. Play JMAC instead of Shake and use Kyle for lock down on Murray when needed. Missing Karl is always going to be tough, but in a game where speed is as important as size, it is survivable.

When Gobert is off the court, does Towns or Naz play center?

I always thought it was Towns, but BBref says he plays 95% of his minutes as a PF, and Naz is 50/50 between PF and C.

I guess I never really paid attention?

It's definitely Towns. Honestly, a few reporters have commented that when KAT, Naz, and Kyle share the floor, Reid plays like the SF and not Kyle.

Offensively Karl can play 2-5. Defensively probably 3-5 but needs some scheme help at the 3.

Finch's expression yesterday after Towns' fourth foul was priceless. At least, for once, keeping him on the court worked, and Towns seemed to focus a bit.

Right now, Towns has more turnovers (93) than assists (90). Yikes.

I bet he's the one who has committed the most offensive fouls.

Yeah, his poor play has been a serious issue lately.

I still don't understand why the "greatest shooting big man of all time" is so obsessed with driving from the 3pt line.

You’re probably right, for offensive fouls. He’s tied for second in total fouls

1. Jaren Jackson Jr. • MEM 116
2. Jusuf Nurkić • PHO 107
Karl-Anthony Towns • MIN 107
Jonas Valančiūnas • NOP 107
5. Dillon Brooks • HOU 105
6. Zach Collins • SAS 104
7. Ausar Thompson • DET 103
8. Aaron Nesmith • IND 101
Alperen Şengün • HOU 101
10. Myles Turner • IND 100

This can be affected by games played, so KAT is tied for fourth in PF/G

1. Dillon Brooks HOU 3.75 28
2. Scoot Henderson POR 3.70 23
3. Jaren Jackson Jr. MEM 3.63 32
4. Jusuf Nurkic PHX 3.45 31
5. Karl-Anthony Towns MIN 3.45 31

He's leading the league with 29 offensive fouls in 31 games played.

Last year Towns had 28 offensive fouls in 29 games played.

The year before he led the league with 68 in 74 games.

Before that he was 3rd with 50 in 50 games.

Except for the 2 years when he missed lots of games, he had always been top 4 in offensive fouls.

Which show he never learn to improve after so many years. Bad habits are hard to change and he will probably have the weakness his entire career. At that stage, i will still make a run this year with KAT but if he failed again in PO, it will probably be the right time to part off.

You have a point, but you also overlook some things. For example, in the NYK game, KAT is driving and get run into by Grimes who then falls into Brunson. The Wolves challenge the call and the call stands with “marginal contact by the defender.” Do you honestly believe that Jokic or Embiid, or even less high profile bigs like Vuc or Adams lose that challenge? Or how about the tech that got rescinded when KAT picked up an offensive foul for marginal contact and an opponent flop (a few games earlier.) Lastly, and this is very important, KAT is one of the highest usage bigs in the league. Moreover he drives more than most bigs in the league. If KAT played like Rudy he would probably get 1/3 of the offensive foul calls, but be 1/3 as valuable on offense.

I agree with you.KAT and Rudy got plenty of bad whistle. But this is never change. Rudy is better this year keeping his mind clam and improve a bit because he was very efficient until recently. His bad habit will probably come back with the frustration of laying less well right now. KAT seems unable to improve and Refs won't change the way they treat him as he will never be a superstar level like Embiid of Jokic..

Honestly the fan base is genuinely kind of terrible to KAT.

He is the longest standing players we've had in some time, one who has never demanded a trade no matter how bad it's gotten.

He gets absolutely dookied on constantly for anything that has gone wrong with this franchise when other factors are much more pertinent to why we sucked.

He has constantly improved parts of his game, has always put his teammates first, and genuinely is one of the more humble players we've had.

Yet people are willing to trade him for a box of McNugggets. Atleast in the last two threads he has been the most discussed trade.

If any real trade rumors surface, I hope that he tears down this whole **** season for the Wolves.

This is not a DeMar for Kawhi type season for us and any Wolves fans that think so are delusional.

He doesn't deserve this **** fan base.

So true! I remember listening to a podcast where a Wolves reporter was in Vegas, and other reporters were telling him how we don’t appreciate Towns like we should. He always does press after every game, and always claims responsibility for years of losses, with “I have to be better,” and not, “why am I always surrounded with young, inexperienced players?” What other star would win an All NBA nod, and be willing to give up his position to try to help his team win?!? He never even said a negative word about the franchise, even when he was getting personally attacked by everyone during the Jimmy fiasco. These other reporters said that Towns is never in trouble with the law, demonstrates any team-oriented problems, or make the team look bad in any way. Finally, they mentioned that it is unheard of for a player of his level, on a team that was so historically bad, to neither request a trade, or use the threat of that request to force the front office to do what he wanted. Towns legitimately wants the Minnesota Timberwolves to win a championship, and I hope he gets his wish.

Dog water is harsh. I am the first guy to defend KAT’s value and have been for years. That said, I care more about the team than the player. If the team can improve by trading Karl then it should.

So far the proposals I've seen are Murray and Markannen as center pieces. Which both are downgrades, one of whom we've already traded away.

This would be a different story if it were Doncic or Giannis or an actual major difference maker. Even I would be onboard if you were talking about something at that level, but the moves being suggested are almost lateral.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
