Just another unfounded gaslighting comment lol
It's been explained many times that it financially doesn't make sense...RJ is already a big contract, Yak is on a bloated contract, IQ is about to get a HUGE pay increase (so another big contract), Pascal would be maxed, Scottie would be maxed out. You'd not only have nothing left to even remotely create a Phoenix Suns like "bench" lol, you'd be a repeat offending lux tax team and for what?!?
That team isn't contending, that team would be LUCKY to be middle of the pack and more likely a Play In team. MLSE is not going to eat literally hundreds of millions in luxury tax for that. That's just being realistic, it's not about "wanting to be bad" lol that's a childlike assertion, it's what is actually feasible if you really want to compete at the highest level and what's not. This is not a feasible option if you REALLY want to contend any time soon.
We would not be in the tax next year which has been stated in multiple cases. We go 8-9 deep now, even if you max Pascal, retain quickly, ditch GTJ + the other expirings your still like 13-15mill away from the luxury tax.
Trading Pascal for dumb contracts & far out picks do not accomplish anything of the sort. If there's a young prospect out there for us, sure, I haven't seen anything according to rumors and the proposals y'all are coming up with does not spark any interest for me.
As PhilBlackson said, how do you build a even a mediocre bench when you have all of that salary tied up in your Top 5 players? Now you're suggesting to dump GTJ plus other expirings all to be $13-15M away from the tax but still over the cap so you cannot replace that talent that you just ditched.
It doesn't make any sense man. I get we love Pascal, trust me I do too but it just doesn't make any long term sense to re-sign him to a 5 year max, which is what he's looking for. The team won't be good and trading him is going to be even harder, since he will be making much more per year.
As I've said before, those who don't get it - its fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if people still can't see this after all the dialogue that's taken place on this board, they're not going to start getting it now.
