It remains to be seen, but the Raptors' play since the trade is stylistically congruent with how I envision Gradey's contributions.

With how radically improved RJ has looked with a style change it's absurd that people can write off Gradey already. High ball IQ, high motor. The G-league isn't ideal for off-ball movers. Gradey's minutes with the big club are reminiscent of Jonhtay Porter but with 0 productivity. When you examine how they navigate the court you can tell they know how to play and are team first guys. Let the kid develop.

Thing in the nba is that if you are a horrible defender, teams will constantly run plays to play you off the court. So if you aren't shooting at an elite clip, you don't belong on the court.

And no one should be writing Dick off in the future, it's just a true comment that he's extremely bad right now. There were statistics that showed he was one of the worst players in the entire nba during his minutes lol.

Sure, he hasn't played well, I'm not saying otherwise. I'm drawing attention to stylistic synergy, what's happening on the court.

For example, Siakam is having his most efficient season since 2019. And in large part it's because how he's generating his looks. He's killing it in the middle and doing far less from the perimeter. Same potential applies to Gradey as well. Playing to your strengths unlocks greater impact.

As for his defense, it's too soon to react. Regardless his DEPM is similar to other players the board clamors for like Mathurin and Sharpe.

I think this may have more to do with a trade going down.

More likely that with Pascal, Jakob, Otto and of course Christian Koloko out, and one roster spot open, they were headed into Utah with only 10 players certain to dress including Jontay Porter

Man, he basically never looks like an NBA player. I get it, he's young etc. but he's not even showing flashes.

Cam Whitmore would look really good with thus core right now especially with OG gone :(

That was a "too talented not to take" when he fell to our pick

On the Raptors reddit, I'm seeing so many people defending the pick, with people saying it's still early, he's still young, give him another year, as if he's some project. We drafted him to play right now. And right now, there is not a single thing he does well.

Would anyone honestly draft Dick again if they could redo the draft?

Gradey draft notes:
Shots ball well
Everything else is poor

NBA notes:
Everything is poor
Only seen in blowouts

I didn’t expect him to contribute much this year but it’s shocking how unplayable he is. Raptors scouting was way off.

He's about 2-3 years away, if he makes it at all. He's not going to improve everything AND gain 10-15 lbs in 1 offseason.

This season is a write off. Hopefully he remembers how to shoot in the offseason.

Didn't expect that we'd be treating this guy like Bruno and that he's 2 years away from being 2 years away.

Return to Toronto Raptors
