Re: What to do with Bruce Brown
I think he will be a better asset before the trade deadline vs in the summer (at the draft). Hope Masai/Bobby are aggressive on getting some assets or players. Need a young defensive stopper to be beside Scottie (the dream being Herb Jones).

How exactly were they going to sign him to that deal Denver gave him? They signed OPJ because that is what they could afford, not because he was their most coveted free agent. They havent been able to go free agent shopping from the top shelves in years. Only re-sign their own players with bird rights.

But what if there is only one 2024 FRP on the table?
At the end of the day my hope is we continue to accumulate draft capital.
In the end, it might be a case of trading the okc 2024 pick for a team’s 2025 pick
For example teams like the Kings, who owe a protected 1st, won’t be able to trade a first for multiple years. But that super late pick in 2024 frees up the future 1sts.
Interesting
I don’t think it works. I think SAC has to get a completely unprotected ‘24 pick to free up their future picks. All of the picks in the convoluted pick swap we are owed are all protected. The OKC pick is not but that’s because they have the swap rights and there is a very very small chance they decline to swap (if they somehow fell to the lottery and won).
I could be wrong though.

Deal with it.
Is 1.5 seasons of "challenging the core players" really gonna make a big difference compared to other possible future/long-term trade assets?

All they need to have a pick for sure for 2024. I think neither the OKC or Clippers pick is protected so we are for sure getting atleast one of OKC or Clippers 1st.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Veteran stability to what? What Veteran stability does Brown bring at $22M that we couldn't get for the MLE or less on the open market? Lol give me a break man.
He won't be resigning at the end of this current deal and even if he did, we won't be contending for at least a couple years at BEST and that assumes everything goes according to plan - which it often doesn't. So what exactly is the point to holding onto Bruce Brown?
Why are so many committed to making the same mistake over and over? He's at the top of his value at a time where we aren't winning. Don't overthink it and don't fall in love. Trade him now while you can get some future value.
Oh and Murray to Toronto is a horrible idea. He's going to cost resources that we could be using to put younger pieces around Barnes and he doesn't make us much better than we are now, if at all.
Masai re-iterated patience and that's the direction we need to be taking at this juncture.
So scottie doesnt have to be our main defender and so he can continue to learn and grow play after play.
Quality Veteran mentors are invaluable to a rebuild.
Scottie, quick and r’s future potential benefits from playing with schroder, jakob and brown.
3 future late firsts are detriments to our young cores development.
Masais gotta walk a tight rope between both perspectives.
Absolutely, I agree completely. Gotta have some vets to help lead and guide the young guys; both on and off the court.
But we're have plenty of capspace in order to add that in the summer. If we can get a valuable pick or young piece, I'd prioritize that right now.
Who signs here?
Mcdaniels 2.0?
Otto porter 2.0?
Dennis only signed here because he was promised the starters job.
Trade him for another 25th pick, great!
Now replace dennis!

They had cap space in 2021 due to the small cap hold Trent Jr. held at the time but they chose not to; the main name floated at the time was Richaun Holmes who was a decent center before he got hit with the injury bug. I believe the main disagreement was on the number of years as Holmes wanted 4 but we only offered 3.

Re: What to do with Bruce Brown
if we deal with the knicks again, it could be fournier + grimes + 1st.
lakers would be a tough one but possibly d'angelo + hood schifino + future 1st. d'angelo has an $18.7 mil PO next season. then we follow up with a shroeder deal now or in the summer.
the other contract they have is rui but he has 2 more years after this one. they're not gonna trade reaves.

Couldn't have been that little interest if he agreed to the deal on the first day.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sportsnet.ca/nba/report-raptors-otto-porter-jr-agree-to-two-year-deal-with-player-option/sn-amp/
July 1st. Deals are often negotiated earlier than that.
Unofficially.
Regardless, like I said it's not like we gave more money to Porter. He got slightly more money in Denver and into a better situation. I don't see how it's implausible that we had interest in him.
Don’t bother. Danger never mention Brown once until after the blew up in Denver. Just pure hindsight gm-ing

Lakers would require taking on salary next season I think. Hard no unless the extra compensation is really good.

It has to be their own pick, which should convey to Atlanta this year if they make the playoffs.
They cannot trade their 2025 pick regardless of if they get another pick.

You’re right. Kings were a bad example because protection doesn’t extinguish. It could be only done if we traded them the pick AND had them call Atlanta to remove all protections on their 2024 pick so it was definitely going. Way too much risk for Bruce Brown.

Probably. For us though I’m sure that is exciting Tari Eason is who I’d be after. But for Bruce Brown? I can’t imagine this is a conversation for either one no matter how disappointing Green has been so far.
