Anticlimactic game tonight between the two of them. Lol. Banchero needs more help on his roster, though. That Magic starting lineup without Franz is atrociously bad outside of Paolo and Suggs.

In all fairness, our injured guys could beat Detroit:
WCJ
Franz
Ingles
Harris
Fultz

Re: Safe to say, Chet "Hologram" Holgrem > Paolo Banchero
Hopefully now that the Magic played a team people watch they saw the major difference in how each player has to score and how one is assisted on and open on most shots due to an elite top 5 player, and how one has to work for every single bucket with no spacing and getting tripled and quadruple teamed at least a few times throughout the game.
No, I'm not saying Chet is trash, I'm saying he benefits from the team he's on. Paolo needs healthy teammates, a starting PG that can shoot, and another trade for at least one more shooter on top of that starting PG, and he should start seeing some space.
Also, Paolo played terribly tonight but still did some little things to help the team. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for tonight as his teammates weren't playing either and the Thunder are a good team.

I doubt most people realize he's only 21 years old. Orlando fans deserve some wins.thelead wrote:Paolo is 21 years old, averaging 23ppg while leading a top 6 eastern conference team on 46/39/71 splits (29ppg on 44/41/75 splits over the last 10 games) and we’re talking about his ‘terrible’ efficiency?
If he was more efficient at his age, he’d start garnering some MVP talk already

Well, somehow, he’s already surpassed his ceiling if you are to be correct..

Petty bump… and I expect it to continue to happen as each hit some sort of milestone. I expect this to get bumped if OKC wins a championship

Re: Safe to say, Chet "Hologram" Holgrem > Paolo Banchero
Threads like this make me hate people who don't actually watch basketball games and just look up basketball reference numbers to try and win arguments on the internet.
This also reminds me of Kessler vs Paolo for ROTY, which frankly I found pretty insulting to what Paolo did as a Rookie. The penchant for advanced stats advocates to simply wipe away real accomplishments as unworthy because the formulas tell you the efficiency doesn't have the right numbers attached to it while ignoring all context is somewhat worthless when talking direct comparisons.
That said Paolo's efficiency isn't good and Chet's is. That's just a starting point, if y9u don't factor in context then I find your arguments dull and without much merit.
The game of basketball has always, and will always be about buckets, and Paolo Banchero gets buckets.
People like to talk about on off numbers too but that's a pretty bad red herring IMO and more about what the Magic's coach is doing with rotations.
When discussing efficiency goals, Paolo needs to get above 80% at the FT line and stay near 40% from three. Meanwhile Chet needs to not disappear on offense which has been doing more often than not lately, scoring single digits in 5 out of the last 10 games he has played. Paolo hit a wall in February his Rookie year and his three point efficiency fell off a cliff (nerve injury as well can be blamed) if Chet goes south like that the Thunder might run into some trouble without an efficient scorer at the 5 to fall back on, and some of their others players might regress a bit as well.
It will be interesting if the Magic and Thunder can make the playoffs and we can see what happens when a team focuses all their attention on stopping what you like to do most.
I have more faith in Paolo figuring out how to be more efficient than I do Chet becoming a 20+ ppg scorer though, Chet always seemed like more of a defensive player than someone who wants to dominate scoring.
Two very different and very good players. I think if you were a good team who wanted to win a title this year Chet might be the player you would want on your team. In a couple years, might be a different answer.

Petty?
Seems to me only a couple of times per year are players actually compared - allstar game and all-nba.
This is the exact right time to bump this post.
Petty would be to do this after a few good games or something like that.
I am not even putting Holmgren down. Just saying that the NBA views Banchero as an elite player and I don't think that the NBA views Holmgren as being "safely" > than Banchero.

To be fair, they aren't being compared against each other since they aren't in the same conference. If Paolo was in the West, I'm not sure he'd be an all star this year either.

It would be nice if the thread just died. The OP had a bad take but the back and forth is unnecessary. Chet will be an all-star himself soon enough. It’s safe to say both Orlando and OKC got what they needed out of those two picks.

True. Plus, Chet would've easily been an All-Star reserve as well if he was in the East.

My opinion is that Barnes makes it before Chet

Funny bump.
Yeah, I'm happy Paolo made it.
He also doesn't have the luxury of stepping onto an nba court with SGA coming into his prime as a scorer and arguably one of the most well rounded youthful rosters available. They are both different players and Chet doesn't have to carry his team every night to get wins. That being said, both will potentially be multi time all-stars for different reasons down the road.

Be happy for Banchero and give him his props.
But don't try it on Chet like you don't see the competition and talent difference between Eastern and Western All-stars aren't pretty massive gulf? Not to mention rookies don't get called up for all-stars, last 20 years only exception being Blake Griffin.
Just few guys who didn't even make the all-stars in West (and all had no hope except first two listed):
Sabonis
Fox
Gobert
Markannen
Jamal Murray
Zion
Ingram
Harden (massive re-birth season)
Wembyama
Jaren Jackson Jr
And so on and on (could name Bane Or Jalen Williams, but they not at that level yet).
The depth of talent pool in Western conference is nuts.
When I look at East reserve guys that made it, I get the sense of that's it? And asking questions about who didnt make. Its basically just wondering Trae missing out for 27/10 stat line (tho garbage winning stats), or Butler big star but injured or coasting in regular season again etc.
