Exactly. It wasn't about Grimes but about the sum of the assets surrendered for a fake franchise talent. The prices for fake franchise talents are completely off the scale. Mitchell ain't a 24-year-old Shaq or Kareem. Acquiring him does not take you from the outhouse to the playoffs and beyond. He does not make you better on both sides of the court. He's just a guy for fanboys to lube up and jack off over. Cleveland was a play-in team before his acquisition and they were a first-round elimination team after his acquisition. And yet they still owe #1 picks (and swaps) over the entire second half of this decade.

Oversimplifying a bit but this looks like a defense for offense type move (beyond obviously adding depth with 2-for-1).

Seems like they expect OG and our two centers to carry our defense. They're so impactful on that end that it may turn out to be true - but the trade does put stress on our defense. We'll see how that pans out.

The trade is an indictment against Grimes. But I think it's also clear they had no intention to pay him long-term. They'll probably welcome turning some picks into cheap-ish rookie-scale contracts. But they're planning on saving money for the Brunson extension, and Grimes's upcoming extension was probably an unnecessary risk.

Anyone that’s hating on this deal over Quentin Grimes does not know ball.

Burks is going to swing over to the 2 and play the 1 occasionally. It gives the team depth and allows Thibs to spread the minutes around and not burn out certain players. Also, Bojan and Burks are being put in a much better position, and a much better system. They gave up no 1st rounders, and still managed to improve the team once again.

This is a fantastic trade, that actually gives us pieces that other teams might covet once we pull the trade and add another star player.

i think you're misreading this trade. ab is here to replace grimes and bog is here to offer forward depth which we already lacked before both of our starting forwards were sidelined. hopefully when they come back they can play slightly less and we can preserve their health for the postseason
