Why does this look like the pamphlet for Weltman’s funeral?

Because things don't all happen in a vacuum when you have contracts and timeframes at stake.
All things can be true simultaneously.
Unless you want to bury your head in the sand and pretend none of it matters until it does?
Whether that is "bad" is up for debate. If you want to have AB and Jett play their way into the rotation, letting Fultz and Harris expire is better than trading for upgrades that could end up as long-term blockers.
I'm kinda ok with it, TBH. I think AB is a smidge behind Suggs in potential and I think they compliment each other nicely and I want to see AB get serious burn. Using Fultz's expiring to free up a starting gig for AB is A-OK by me.
Jett, I'm not sold on but I'm not some gifted talent evaluator and I want to see what the kid can do. Weltman drafts well.

Why not? Theres also Joe Harris

I don't know, I'm sure you could justify an immediate pivot to win now. You start sacrificing future value too soon though and I think you live to regret it. We have a long runway for Paolo to level up so letting assets mature alongside him makes sense. Timeline concept, as you get closer to Paolo's window of being the #1 option on a contender you start focusing more on present value than future value.KillMonger wrote:eyriq wrote:Players on rookie contracts don't behave like this. shouldn't you be in win now after you get your stars? i feel like that clock started as soon as we got paolo....some of the issues we have now isn't really something new and should be getting addressed by now right? we're going to solve the shooting and spacing issues this offseason right?

No trades by the Orlando Magic is a bit of a surprise to me. They had a lot of firepower and expiring contracts to include. Plus, they have reason to make moves with how well their season has started.
I expected them to do something to add to their bench scoring and shooting. Instead, they didn't.

I think Hawks, Mavs, and Cavs are teams that hit the accelerator once their young core was locked in. Debatable is it was the right move.

Fandom is built on hope. You have to be able to “see tha vision” if you want to put up with the hard times (even a nice season like this one).
If it doesn’t look like there is a vision, it’s naturally going to cause disengagement. There are a lot of attractions for our attention beyond the NBA.
Fair enough. But all the boogiemen are on expiring contracts and he's got 5 lotto talents on rookie contracts baking in the oven and driving the team. The vision of organic growth, strong culture, and establishing a defensive foundation is pretty clear and we are consistently pursuing it.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.
