There are more technically possible options but it'll be one of the above. Whatever they do, they don't have to rush to convert Queta, as something unexpected could happen in the buyout world.
Haven't heard anyone discuss this idea, but are we sure JD isn't the most likely 2-way to get converted? He seems like he has now exhausted the usefulness of the G league. And with Tillman in the fold, I think there is more need for a guard than a big. I'm not sure JD is ready, I don't expect him to be a playoff contributor, but it seems like the C's will need to sign him soon or let some other team do it. He's arguably been the player in the G league this year.
Replying to myself here, but who do we think will not be on the team next year:
- Svi - think this is the only one thats basically a lock.
- Springer? He has a team option for $4 million, not sure that is a great contract, but they just gave up a pick for the guy.
- Kornet? I like a little more upside with Queta, but Kornet has played well, knows his role, and is fine with not playing, etc. Seems like a Brad Stevens favorite.
- Tillman? Just traded two picks for him and is better than everyone on this list other than Horford. They should try to resign him.
- Brissett? He has a player option for $2.5 mil. I think he picks it up to stay. Unless he has some epic playoff moments that raise his profile and lead to him testing the open market.
- Horford may retire if we win it all, not convinced he comes back for that second year if he accomplishes the goal of winning a title.
It doesn't seem like a whole lot of room for Queta, JD, and some new draft picks. Not sure if Begarin or Madar try to come over at any point either. Personally, I think there is only room for one of Tillman and Brissett and likely room for only Kornet or Queta and not both.
Do we still have our own first and two seconds this draft? Seems like we need to do the opposite last year and try to consolidate picks to get one better prospect. Trade Brissett, #30, both 2nds and try to pick in the low 20's or something.
