Jalen Williams is very good, but lets be real here. OKC's record without Shai is pretty mediocre and if he was out for an extended stretch they'd drop like a stone like the 76ers have without Embiid. There's a big difference between MVP level players like Embiid, SGA who absorb most of the attention and very good 2nd options like Maxey and Williams.

They are 0-1 this year without SGA, and 7-7 last year.

Kind of tough to say their record without SGA is mediocre over a 15 game sample, and OKC was below .500 with SGA last year.

But I do assume you would be right. SGA is really, really, really good.

In terms of importance, I think it's Shai 1, Chet 2, Williams 3.

Shai is the engine of that team and Chet is the backline backbone. I don't think that team is a true a contender if one of them is missing. While Williams is very good, I think they could absorb his loss much easier.

I'm a little surprised they weren't more of a buyer at the deadline. Adding some vets to that core and drive a deep playoff run seemed like it made sense.

I like the Hayward pickup but they really needed to add more frontcourt depth. I know they added Bismack, but I'm not sure he's much a factor at this point of his career. I thought they should be aggressive because that team won't be cheap for very much longer and they should take advantage of the cap flexibility while they have it.

And I find it extremely weird that they bought Hayward of all players.

They should have been a team that should have aggressively gone after like, OG or something.

I thought Jak was a perfect fit there to.

I don't think wanted to add any long term money, which I get because they will need to give Shai, Chet, Williams all max money and Giddey/Cason will want to get paid as well. They'd need to target guys with 1-2 year commitments.

To me, Giddey is the odd man out and I'd be selling him.

With the ball in Shai and William's hands so much, Giddey feels sort of superfluous. You'd rather have a shooter off ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if Giddey was moved in the offseason when he becomes extension eligible.

they didnt "buy" harward
they dumped salary. bertans 5$ next year, milicic 8 mil. mann 5 mil next season
they are now projected to have near max salary cap space.
maybe harward helps them a bit, but i think okc saw it as more a salary dump than getting hayward.

Shai is signed though 26/27. Likely supermax eligible in '27.
Giddey is extension eligible at the end of the 23/24 season.
Chet and Williams are extension eligible at the end of the 24/25 season.
Cason is extension eligible at the end of the 25/26 season.

OKC probably has 2 years where they will be flexible from a cap standpoint. But after that they're going to have pick their core, which will probably consist of 3 max level guys and cheaper support players or 2 max level guys and 1-2 highly paid support players. In '26, they're facing a huge cash crunch.

Which does not really make sense to me because a guy like Poeltl is 100% moveable if you need to later, and OG is gonna have value around the league. Both guys could be bought for this year (maybe next) and could move them later for assets as their young guys are ready to step up.

Plus, they have 2 more lottery picks this year to fill the gaps.

If you look at OKC fans comments, you will see that they 100% don't want a big C who can't shoot from outside and clogs the paint. All of them say that will hurt SGA and others when thrive with the open paint.

The Philadelphia 76ers called the Los Angeles Lakers as to the availability of LeBron James via trade. Daryl Morey reportedly made this call after James cryptically posted an hourglass emoji in the days leading up to the deadline.

When the Lakers countered by asking about the availability of Joel Embiid, Morey turned his sites to the Phoenix Suns. The Sixers first asked about Kevin Durant, before inquiring about Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Going after stars isn't a new tactic for Morey. He's known as one of the league's more aggressive executives in pursuing stars via trade. Morey going star-hunting at this deadline may give some insight into his offseason plans.

The 76ers are likely to hit the offseason with somewhere between $40 and $60 million in cap space. That could go a long way towards trading for a star to team Embiid and a re-sign Tyrese Maxey.

The Hayward trade cleared almost $20m off next season for them.

Also there weren’t any stars available at the deadline. This summer is going to be interesting as the new cba comes into full effect and the latest round of stars ask out

They would have had to act much earlier to beat NYK to OG
