I saw the Linebrink thing. I really don't want him. He dropped off a lot recently and he is probably looking for a big pay day. No Linebrink. Taking a look at almost all of the bullpens in the league, none of them seem to have big free agent acquisitions. It seems to be guys they developed, traded for or signed on the cheap. -Jitpal

That doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons. They just traded for Cabrera at SS and are looking to sign Torii Hunter. They plan on winning. How would trading their closer for no possible replacement help them with that? Plus, they want to get rid of Uribe to clear some cash for Hunter, so why would they take on Farnsworth? Bad deal and I don't see how they could trade Jenks unless they signed Cordero as well. -Jitpal

when I first saw it I didn't think it made sense either. but Hunter is close to signing with Texas. KW makes horrible moves and he just might want Melky bad enough to do this. plus they have Lance Broadway who can be groomed into the closer role while Farnsworth pitchs there for a while

He would easily be the best lefty we have had in a while, so this is a good signing. Nothing longterm, not a lot of money, so no complaints here. He'll be solid.
The Yankees and relief pitcher Ron Mahay are closing in on a two year deal worth about five to seven million dollars, according to one AL executive. Mahay, 36, dominated lefties and holding them to a .189 average. He will give the Yankees a lefty specialist in the bullpen who can set up for closer Mariano Rivera.

Sounds a lot like Mike Myers

If it is 7 million for 2 years rather than 7 million per year I can deal with that. I wouldn't mind that. Good thing because I had a bad feeling that he would get 6 million per year and would be looking for 3 years. -Jitpal

if it comes down to this for santana, do you pull the trigger?
hughes, melky + horne
btw, santana is on the market now (their GM is quietly making calls gauging interest) b/c he turned down their deal according to some reports
You know what, you can call me crazy but I would not do that. I know that they could probably get it and the Yankees would probably do that deal but I would not. I'm just not interested in dealing Hughes, Joba, Cano, Jackson or Tabata. Everyone else they can look through and pick a few. If Santana hits free agency which I think is possible, then you sign him. -Jitpal

That's basically how I feel. I would say Hughes, Joba, and Cano are pretty much untouchable. I don't know enough about Jackson or Tabata to say them, just yet. I've heard alot of good things about them. I'd be against trading them, though. A Jackson, Tabata, Melky OF would be great. Jackson and Tabata, from what I've read, both have all-star potential.
I think they should just play it safe, don't give up Hughes Joba or Cano. Start the season with a 6 man rotation to limit the youngsters innings. Once the middle/later part of May comes, stick with a 5 man rotation. Wang, Joba, Hughes, Pettite, Kennedy. Mussina goes to the bullpen for long relief

rotoworld/ESPN:
Peter Gammons is reporting that the Twins will want Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and Austin Jackson in a package for Johan Santana.
That's not such a ridiculous demand. The Yankees have to know they're not getting Santana without giving up one of their three young studs, and the Twins likely will demand Hughes over Ian Kennday. Cabrera isn't the young offensive star the Twins would like, but he will be a solid regular for five years. Jackson improved tremendously in the second half of last season and has the tools to keep it up, but he's still only played like a top prospect for three months. It's still a high price to pay, but it's doubtful Santana can be had for much less.

I agree. I'd like to think a package of Kennedy, Melky, Tabata could net Santana. I don't know if it will but if it did I think I'd have to heavily consider it.
Someone over @ nnyfans wrote this
The market for Santana is as limited as the market was for A-Rod. The salary that they both players command can only be supported by a handful of teams. If by some chance Santana really has a preference and it happens to be that he really wants to be a Yankee, he holds all the leverage to make it happen.
Talk of the Yankees having to sacrifice Cano and/or Hughes are absurd. The Yankees can offer a superior package compared to the Red Sox and Mets without having to include them. The real competition to the Yankees will be the loser of the Cabrera sweepstakes - Angels or Dodgers. Either team can trump any reasonable offer that the Yankees make. My gut feeling is that the Angels will land Cabrera, and the Dodgers will have the most chips to offer the Twins; but who knows if Santana is even interested in switching over to the NL? I haven't heard or read anything that makes me think he would object; but if he does; he falls into the Yankees lap.
I would tend to agree with this.
