It's fine for him to be confident in himself, he wouldn't be as good as he is if he thought otherwise, but obviously other than Tatum no1 is considering him the best in the world

P.s 7th best or 5th best or 10th best is a remarkable achievenent regardless and he's got hundreds of millions of dollars to show for it too, i'm sure he's not complaining

Agree that anyone who's as good as Tatum should be free to think this, but do we all agree he's a top 5 player? I feel if guys like LeBron and Durant were on the Celtics instead of Tatum, the Celtics have just as good a record, and Tatum-led Suns or Lakers would be about the same as well. If he is top 5, I don't think he's separated himself from his rivals much.

I’m not convinced he’s better than Leonard, butler or lebron. If you put any of those guys on this team I think more people would have them as the favorite over Denver either because of their athleticism or strength or motor. Those players are also more fundamentally sound and have higher strengths they can lean on than Tatum who is merely good at everything, but doesn’t show true greatness in any area of the game

I have only Jokic as very clearly ahead, he's very similar to Durant, the perfect co-star player, can fit any offensive and defensive scheme, we can argue about his ranking among Giannis, Luka, SGA and Embiid, but he's in the ball park.
Now that Steph, LeBron, Lillard, Durant and Butler are aging out, the top 10 list is getting more top-heavy.
Tatum, by not being an offensive hub like LeBron, Luka, Jokic and SGA, can make his bad games (like yesterday against the Nuggets) look much worse than these guys' bad games, which tends to make people underrate his impact (and overrate it when he's catching fire from 3).

Tatum wasn't really even a factor in this game..best player in the league is hardly ever a non-factor, especially not in big games and moments. we'll give him a slight pass because JB was cooking and no1 on the Nuggets could slow him down, so it was good basketball to defer to JB and run through him, but that almost never happens to true MVP caliber players

Tatum is a great player tho, in his own right. def not the best player in the league but one of the better ones for sure

I honestly don’t think Tatum is top 5. Imo these guys are clearly better:

Jokic
Embiid
Luka
SGA
Giannis

Also think the team would be better this year with Lebron. I feel very confident that he would lead them to a title just because he is such a talented game manager and facilitator.

Some people have a habit of insisting a player improved simply because their teammates improved and their record is better than the previous year.

Reminds me of fans of a bad defensive player waiting a year and saying "actually his defense is greatly improved, you just don't watch his games!" It happened with Harden and the fans attempted it with Trae.
