Feel like we're in a position to take these kind of risks as well.
Edit - most likely seems to be the Sixers

I like Fred as a comparison for Sheppard. But Sheppard is bigger and projects to be much more effecient. Probably a coin flip if we keep our pick or not, but i do think he'll end being the target if we do. Seems like a great long term fit with Scottie

I'll bring him up again...
I know the level of competition likely sucks lol so it's hard to gauge but I just can't shake the feeling that you can't pass on Hansen Yang with that DET pick and I find that tough to say because I also still really like Chomche...
Of course he's NOT Jokic but man could he ever end up being an ironic poorman's version of a draft story, he's closer to looking like a bigger Sengun (who gets compared to Jok but despite AP's passing, NK is still a savant level that only Magic compares). Everyone knows you can't expect a SRP to be much more than hopefully a rotation player but you also don't want to be one of those teams that passed on a certain talent because it didn't "fit the mold" or were supposedly weary because you questioned the level of competition they faced (again sounds something like Jok & Sengun too). If it turns out he's a "bust", big deal & he joins the 98+% of 2nd rd players that do buuuut if you're right.....then you probably have THE biggest steal in the entire draft.

Isn’t there concerns about him being able to leave China to play?

He’s taller, faster and just overall better. I would be shocked if someone could tell me a single thing that Fred did better than Reed on the basketball court at 19/20 years old. Pass? Maybe?

The Fred comparison is more defensively. He makes it work while being not big (bigger than Fred tho), not really athletic (tho i think more athletic than advertised) and with a short wing span. He can still stick with all the guards college while racking up pretty eye popping stocks.
Im a huge fan of his and wouldnt be surprised to see him being the best player when we look back at this draft, and it might be one of those "how could teams not know" type deals. I mean he's a guard with a 70 TS%.. I know the volume isnt great, but you never see that.

Hansen Yang's game is more like a traditional 90's C with offensive game. Not sure why he hasn't gotten more attention but he may be in '25 draft. Certainly if you have a pick after 25 or so, this would be a good stash.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

ofc he's able to leave, China isnt North Korea, lol. The question is whether he'd want to leave. While it would be a huge opportunity, he's not a high end prospect that would get the red carpet rolled and it would be a big culture change for a guy who might stick around. Not as easy as a decision as it seems if he's able to get paid reasonably well in China

The question of leaving isn’t about the government. It’s about the contract he signed and if he would be willing to pay the sum of money required to get out of that contract.

It would be a relatively small amount and he'd for sure be paid more than enough in the NBA to make up for it...if he can make it. Which is the big problem as he'd be a 2nd rounder and not a 1st rounder with guaranteed millions coming his way

It's interesting how Fred's name is coming up more from time to time because I hadn't seen it anywhere prior to making the comparison myself a while ago. The name that was thrown around early in the year for Reed was Mike Bibby. I would agree that Sheppard projects to be a more efficient shot maker and this will also change how defenses have to play him, it's not unreasonable to think he will start launching logo 3's more frequently and be pretty successful doing so. Perhaps Reed can be imagined as a prime Klay type piece in terms of the value he will bring to the floor and not as a comparison as shooters and how they get their shots off. Even though Klay was largely an off-ball player, his value was so extremely high being one of the best off-ball players in recent memory that he should have gone like 4th overall in a redraft. I think Reed should be able to handle more on-ball duties than a guy like Klay but will still largely thrive playing off others and struggle at times as a primary ballhandler.

Is he really faster? Or stronger? Or a better ball handler? Fred's game grew tremendously over the years as did his body, I suppose you can't rule out Sheppard improving his handle and figuring out how to not get blown by on D.

His catch-and-shoots really do look a lot like Klay. Catch and release quick with textbook form. Scottie in a super Dray role with Sheppard/Dick doing their best splash brothers impression would be fun to watch

I pass like that in pick up. He has a lot of turnovers too. At 7'1 and plays 34 mins only puts up 13 pts vs shorter and not great competition. Edey should go ahead of Yang for sure. Edey should at least be Ivica Zubac right? At best, Deandre Ayton I guess. What's Yang's best case, Kelly Olynyk that can't shoot from outside 18 feet or FT's?

What about Lillard comp? 6'3 can dunk. Shoots 40% from 3. Not frail.
He's going to be 20 at the draft but even as a sophomore aged player he's not afraid of the moment. Clutch block at the end and clutch shots from everywhere.

Lillard had/has unlimited range, but also couldn’t defend at all.

Lillard started shooting deeper and deeper as his NBA career developed. Ya, Reed might be a slightly less bouncy Lillard but with better defense. That's MVP potential right there. Topic might be Jason Kidd 2.0 but Reed would be the #1 choice if moved up into the top 4. He could be 6'3 John Stockton?
Wildcat/Jayhawk Bench Mob!!!
Top 4: Reed Sheppard
Pacers Pick: Zvonimir Ivisic
#32: Antonio Reeves
PG IQ - Reed - JFL
SG Trent - Dick - Reeves
SF Barrett - Agbaji - Dick
PF Barnes - Boucher - Ivisic
C Poeltl/Olynyk - Ivisic
So much many Duke, Kentucky and Kansas players!

Reed is more of a fundamental guy than Lillard. Lillard had superstar traits, Reed is more super high end starter. I’d lean way closer to FVV than Damian Lillard for a comparison.
Also, there’s no comparison with Topic and Jason Kidd, but if there was he’d be the undoubted #1 guy.

As much as I'm breaking down his game and nitpicking I've never had Reed outside of my top 5, the question for me is does he deserve to go higher. The thing with Reed is we already see the elevated level of gameplay whereas there is quite a bit of projection to do with other guys (Holland, Sarr, Castle, etc..) who all have question marks regarding shooting at the moment. Shooting being such a valuable skill and Reed making his case for being one of the best shooters in recent memory, that has to count for something.
On the other hand you have a guy like Topic who clearly is better getting to and is as good at finishing at the rim as Reed is shooting, NBA frame at 6'6 with 7 ft wingspan, zero questions about ability to play PG and provides positional size advantage, more of a demon in transition, 87% free throw shooter, capable of making higher level passes with more ease and quickness, etc..
If Reed goes insane in the tournament when everything is on the line then I'll have something more to think about.
