No longer eligible for MIP due to not meeting the 65 game threshold.

Coach needs to make sure Jalen receives more attempts next season and he should average 20ppg. He shoots at a high percentage so it's time to feed him more.Jamaaliver wrote:

I want to see JJ develop as SF. He absolutely has the skills on both O and D to flourish. Why do some of you want him at PF?
He has the handles, shooting and movement ability to play at SF and gives us a size advantage which our team sorely lacks
He is what we wanted Dre to be

Jalen definitely has the build of a SF. But he lacks the shooting touch to play there FT.
He shot 35% from deep this season and is only shooting 33% from deep for his career. So throwing him out on the perimeter seems like moving him away from his strength, attacking the paint with the ball. Also at PF, he can take bigger, slower PFs off the dribble.
Biggest thing for JJ at PF, he then shares the court with 3 wing players (PG, SG, SF) which keeps the floor spaced for him to drive and dish. Where if he's the third wing, that leaves two other big men on the court potentially clogging the lane.
It's really interesting that Jalen came up in HS and College as a SF.
Spoiler:
And actually played a fair amount at Center in College Park.
Not sure what to do with that info...

I would prefer that he up his 3pt% and use all those skills to play SF and help the Hawks play bigger. No doubt his skills play at PF as well but under-sized. We have long been under-sized at every position more than long enough

Found this nugget from before Jalen's rookie Training Camp:

JJ is the point 4. Him being able to play that allows for a much more dynamic 3 in the lineup in place of DH whenever they acquire him.
Atp they need to have a bigger rangy guard next to Trae like a 6-8, 6-9 guy. Plus length from 2-5 and they are ready to go.

Hard to have length at 2-5 when you want to start 6'8" JJ at the 4

Reason for hope: Top 1 percent in terms of athleticism and feel for the power forward position. A plus motor. Human highlight reel. Flashed competence from distance this season, albeit at a pretty low volume. The former 20th pick looks more like the premier prospect he was coming out of high school, and a potential building block for the next phase in Atlanta.
Reason for doubt: Johnson struggled to stay on the floor this season, missing 26 games due to injury. And he’s ultimately the kind of guy who needs to be set up by plus playmaking, as he lacks a true “bag” on offense: a problem, of course, that may be exacerbated if he’s minus one of the league’s truly best setup guys next season in Trae Young.
Bold prediction: Johnson will lead the Hawks in scoring next season. Young’s ball dominance will likely be out the door, and even if Dejounte Murray stays, Quin Snyder will craft an attack centered around the franchise’s true centerpiece.

That bold prediction is bold indeed. It's funny that one of the biggest doubts is a need for plus playmaking, but the prediction is still adamant on one of the leagues best being shipped out.

Same article has Trae ranked 15 with this bold prediction.
Bold prediction: Young will be traded to the Lakers this offseason, form the NBA’s most potent alley-oop connection with Anthony Davis, and help LeBron reach one more NBA Finals with L.A. —Levy-Rubinett
Funny how he can help so many other teams except the Hawks.

I am not anti Trae. Quite the opposite but we need to look at the talent level on the team and wonder why they are playing 10th seed in the East ball. I know about the depth and fit problems but it's still a team that should be playing better and Trae is on it
