Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread (Early)
I think by the end I'll likely settle on Knecht. Can't see how his shooting does not translate, a good athlete also. Defense has to be figured out.
Somewhat ironic that 10 years after the 2014 draft, or the McDermott trade/draft, this team still needs to improve its outside shooting.

Draft board questions about Salaun…
Salaun can't jump as shown by... him being unable to score in the paint and averaging 0.2 BPG despite being huge?
Salaun constantly overhelps and goes for blocks, he just can't get any because he can't jump.
He has 9 blocks in 44 games at 23 MPG despite being 6'9" to 6'10" with a big wingspan, it's bad.

One conspiracy theory I heard was Bulls use a 2nd on him then trade use him as an incentive in a Zach LaVine trade to the Lakers
I don't believe such a thing has merit, but if Bronny is drafted it will be due to some similar type of non-meritous reason. If you get a late enough pick and he's sitting there at say 55, drafting him for a non-meritous reason may not be such a terrible idea given the bust rate in that range is like 99% anyway.

Not to be a buzzkill… but 10 years after the 2014 draft, 14/15 Jimmy Butler is still the best overall player the Bulls have had in the entire decade. Demar’s second due to insane iso production, but it’s hard picking him over a 21 PER guy with all-defensive ability on the other end.
If Jimmy had this team instead of Demar, we’d probably be a contender (esp. assuming Zach and Vuc fall in line, Caruso/Coby/Ayo play more off ball roles, etc.). Our defense would be much better, and we’d have more of a distributor finding the open guys, so we’d probably put more 3Ps.
I’m a fan of what Demar’s done here, but the defensive woes having him on the wings with Vuc are compounded greatly. And while he’s capable of being a great offensive teammate, ultimately he still prefers to find less efficient shots for himself then creating a high volume of drive and kicks.
I do think a Knecht (any 3P wing) is desperately needed , but we’ll still have fundamental issues with defense, pace, penetration and scoring in paint until we move to new personnel (1. Vuc 2. Demar).
I don’t see this draft bringing any important piece. Big picture… Did Redick do anything for Orlando, or Kessler for Utah? I still like the idea of adding them, but as the board has beaten the cow to death… AK’s got a lot more problems to address than this draft can help. He’s several steps behind the game.

Sears looks eerily similar to Brunson. Crazy similar measurements and college game.

I would fire Donovan for Danny Hurley pretty easily.

Agreed 100%
Even if we add the "right" players like Knecht or a typical defensive center, we'll top out as like a 6th seed.
We should be trying to shake things up.
Gosh I despise AK.

Best college head coach but NBA is a completely different animal. Remember last coach to win back to back national titles: Billy Donovan.

Donovan won with the same lineup and had two NBA All stars at the 4/5.
Hurley's UConn seems like more of a system thing than a star power thing.
And beyond that, I know what Donovan is without need to consider his college career. He's a mediocre head coach who doesn't give us an edge.

Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan are projected top 10 picks. ESPN thinks Clingan is a top 5 pick.

I will take the under on 2 all stars.
Plus he had neither of them starting last year.

Castle wasn't on the team. He was the #9 high school player last year.

I like them both a lot. Castle’s defense is downright spectacular and he is a relentless competitor. I love him, but he’ll be gone before we pick.
Clingan was projected around our range which sounds about right, 10-16ish. He may be rising draft boards in light of his recent dominance over two powerhouse offenses, but by the time the process is over he’ll fall back to where he should be. I like him though. Don’t love him.

It seems more likely that they re-sign DDR/PW and go with basically the same team.

So you think he compares to late first round pick who had maybe 4 good NBA seasons?

He will be long gone. They know who he is going to be. Draft process isn't going to change that. People have said he looks good shooting the 3 in warmups so if anything some team is going to see that in a work out and fall in love.
