I'm not sure who I'd take if we got inside the top 3-4. Not a huge fan of Topic / Risacher if they are consensus top 3 picks. Probably look to trade down if possible.
Since 2000, the #3 or #4 pick has only been traded a few times and more often than not, it was traded for a pick just a few spots lower or multiple picks in the same draft.
2006 - #4 pick Tyrus Thomas for LaMarcus Aldridge
2008 - #3 pick OJ Mayo traded for the #5 pick Kevin Love
2018 - #3 pick Luka Doncic traded for the #5 pick Trae Young
2019 - #4 pick De'Andre Hunter traded for the #8 pick Jaxson Hayes & #17 pick Nickeil Alexander-Walker
In the 2024 draft, the teams that could end up with the #5 pick should we move up in the draft would be:
Detroit
Washington
San Antonio
Charlotte
Portland
Unless one of those teams has their eyes set on someone like Topic or Clingan and they're afraid he won't be available at the #5 pick, I don't think any of those teams would be ideal trade partners with us.
Should we decide to trade out of the top 4, the teams with multiple first round picks in the 2024 draft are:
Portland - #5, #13. Would the Blazers give up 2 lottery picks to move up 2 spots in the draft?
New Orleans - #16, #23. Are 2 first round picks in the middle of the first round enough value in exchange for a top 4 pick?
Atlanta - #10, #19. Similar to the package from the 2019 draft, this could be fair value for both teams should the Hawks target someone in the top 4.
Oklahoma City- #12, #25. Although it's a slightly worse package than what Atlanta could offer, the Thunder have lots of prospects and future first round picks they could add to sweeten the deal.
Given the above, only Atlanta and Oklahoma City make the most sense but since a 2-for-1 trade would give us four rookies on the team next season I'm not convinced we'd seriously entertain trading out of the top 4 unless its for an established player rather than draft picks and then I'm not sure who would be available and/or fit alongside the talent we have on the team and their timelines for growth and development.
