Another idea - if Zion is injured and if NOP lose the next game - should we try and trade for CJ McCollum? He is younger, healthier and better playmaker than Klay. Pelicans looked good for most of the year, but they are about to miss on playoffs after 7 consecutive home defeats, maybe they need to shake things up?

And for 3-4x salary. People just dont understand we have ball handling, playmaking problem not spot up shooter problem.
At least it seems front office knows whats going.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Whatever Thompson is the answer of, I agree that I don't know the question. But in my opinion, you are flat wrong that the Magic does not need distance shooting, respectfully.

By all metrics, the biggest problem holding the Magic back are i) not league level three-ball attempts and ii) not league level three-ball averages. The Magic gives up points by being horribly inefficient on offense. That cannot be a disagreeable statement.
The Magic must improve their eFG%. "Playmaking" is not the solution to that problem.

Its more of chicken and egg problem.
Whats bigger problem not having enough shooters or not creating enough opportunities for shooters we have ?
Until Franz and Paolo are better creators for others i dont see spot up shooters as our biggest need. Yes we need shooting but we need better creators more.
Even Lebron benefits from having someone like Irving, Shroeder, Russell and he is better creator than Banchero.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

With the cap concerns coming...Isaac's excellent year adds to the pile (happily)...one thing to look for is front-loading a FA deal as much as possible. If we chase a FA guard and don't send out any salary, it's either going to have to be somewhat modest or short-term...this is why I don't think Klay is likely-GSW offered him $25 and it will be hard for him to leave. Giving him more means 2 years or less (I assume) which he'd likely turn down and giving him more money or a longer deal is just not the right move-he's really not what we need to that extent.

IF we've got 20+ going to Isaac, Suggs, Monk/DLo/Simons, and 30+ going to Paolo & Franz...that's when the types of deals that Gary, Ingles, Mo, Cole, and WCJ don't look so feasible anymore. When things get really good for a team, the FO needs to find more vet mins and can't just throw around the 8-13m deals to guys outside of the top 4 or 5 core players.

I'm hoping for a trade for THAT guy...mostly because it would send out salary (even if just partial offset) and the target would be under contract already. If we just throw money to get a guy out of a place they love (Klay, KCP, DLo & Monk)...it will likely be an overpay in salary. Given our situation, might be smarter to "overpay" in trade assets for a guy on a reasonable deal.

*Monk is, perhaps, an exceptional opportunity because SAC cannot pay him what his market value is.

I'm less confident that they will swing big to complete the team as Isaac and Suggs' prices have gone up considerably as the season has gone on. There's a lot of money available THIS summer but you can't really expect ORL to look at cap opportunities the way PHI, GSW, PHX, DAL, etc have.

I hope I'm wrong...but don't be surprised if the BIG GET this summer is...bargain deals on GTJ or Beasley or Moody or even Tyus (if there's no bidding comp) along with a late draftee that "we're really excited about" and Jett.

I really hope we aim higher but the more I think about it - a bold Weltman and a free spending ownership hasn't been the ticket thus far.

I'd be much happier sending out some salary and picks for a better player.

Klay is washed. We need more shooting but I’d rather they look at longer term options.

zaymon wrote:Getting Klay without getting point guard is pointless. Why have shooters when you dont have enough playmaking to create shots for them ? I like building around Paolo and Franz but they are not good creating shots for others, especially spot up shooters.
Getting point guard and rim protector are #1 and #2 priorities. Getting someone like Klay is at best #3 priority.

This.

Pelicans look like ass last night against LA in the first half.

Ball sticking, bad shots, stupid offense. Sound familiar?

They take out Ingram and McCollum and put in Alvaredo, Jones, and Murphy- the offense all of sudden starts moving the ball and shots start dropping. Zion starts getting looks at the rim.

Orlando needs a point guard that moves the ball that CAN shoot. Not some guy that is parked shooting on volume taking shots away from our core.
