They are though. Minnesota has their guy in Edwards and is the 3rd seed. OKC drafted many good players and is now the 1st seed with many good years ahead. Dallas got Doncic. The problem is that Micky can’t commit to a real tank and wants to hold onto just enough to put butts in seats

Sure, finally, they moved Love for the #1 pick in Wiggins, they drafted Towns and only after trading for Butler and now finally hitting with a #1 pick are they looking good. It only took Minnesota 15-20 years. Like I said the draft is very unpredictable.

How much better would Miami be with Maxey? They wouldn't have had to trade for Lowry and could have brought in some more talent since Maxey was on a rookie contract.

Why pay a top 20 guy when you can overpay some role-players.

It's not like Miami can just select a top player in the league and say here's your 50 mil, you play for us now. It doesn't work that way.

Still your chances of getting a franchise player are way better when you have top 3 pick then you are picking in the teens. And Miami has gotten a lot better at drafting. I think we'd do way better than some of these other teams if we were picking at the top. There's no way around that if you want to consistently contend you need that young franchise player. And those players rarely go on the market when they are in their prime.

Agreed on Maxey and that was a big miss.

Back to Minnesota though, the Heat franchise is way better. Minnesota finally sticking is a case of a broken clock being right twice a day. Don’t believe Miami would have too bad of a time finding the next guy. But you have to be at the top of the draft to have a chance
