Easier said than done, particularly when talking about bench players.

Nuggets got lucky with Brown and got him cheap because teams didn’t value him as much as they should have (he was playing well in Brooklyn). It would have been wild for them to sign him up to some longer deal from day one though.

They were never going to be able to keep him once a team threw some money at him.

That’s the reality with the CBA. Teams really have to strike while the iron is hot because their depth will quickly disappear as seasons go on and salary implications hit.

First they'd have to hit a great drive through the chute, then hole out on a difficult uphill shot just to get into a playoff where they still might lose. it was such an advantage for minny to have a player of reid's calibre come off the bench in the 4th full of energy whilst everyone else on the court was exhausted. it was clear he was playing with much more energy than anyone else on the court.

depth might be overrated in the playoffs but *quality* depth is still very valuable.
