Dejounte Murray and Capella Trade
Murray just 27 years old and healthy
There were heavy rumors we would acquire him at the deadline
He can play point guard and keep Brunson’s minutes at a reasonable level
He’s big and has a large wingspan, and has been a great defender in the past
I don’t hear his name mentioned so far this offseason, can’t we use our draft picks and make a trade with Atlanta? Maybe Mitchell Robinson, Bogdanovich and picks for Murray and Capella?
Capella expires after next season and is in a walk year, so he will want to perform big time
Murray is on a VERY reasonable deal (3 years left, making $25-$30 million per)
Brunson
Murray
OG
Randle
IHart
Hart
DiVincenzo
Capella
McBride
Achiuwa
I think it’s a GREAT fit, Murray has also performed in the clutch and both seem to fit our tough style of play. Thoughts?

You understand there was considerable expectation for Bridges to take a giant leap in the 23/24 season, right? He also was very much not the primarily option. Cam was. He basically played as a third ball handler because he -- by his own admission -- wasn't aggressive like Cam or Dennis. He went from 27 PPG to 19. All his numbers across the board were down from his Phoenix days in 22/23. How do you not look at his numbers pre-Phoenix, and post-Phoenix after the trade, and don't expect a continuation? By his own admission, his play was inconsistent this year.
The Knicks starting lineup does not need a Bridges. If he comes off the bench, sure, whatever, but the Knicks need someone who is legitimate threat from 3 point range in the starting 5. Hell, if we're talking purely based on numbers, Donte had a better February, March, and April then Bridges as a number 2 option.
Let's also be real about Donte. He had 2 bad playoff games against Indiana and only 1 of them cost them a game where everyone had a bad game. I don't know how you can look at his numbers against Pacers of 22 @ 44/46/84 and say that was inconsistent.
The argument with Donte on the bench isn’t that he is a worst player than bridges. It’s the fact he could come in as a sixth man and take on more of the offensive work load. Basically if the bench is him, Hart, Mitch, and a good back up PG. Then the Knicks are a 48 minutes of maximum effort team without the players actually having to play 48 minutes
Your 6th man is Josh. The starting unit needs that 3 pointer threat that Donte provides. Bridge is a weaker 3 point shooter. He's not going to command the attention from beyond arc like he would. One of Bridges strengths is his ball handling capabilities. Guess who that serves better? The 2nd unit.
Yeah but you can always mix and match Hart, Bridges, DDV, and OG as your wings to fit a particular need. You’re saying offensively DDV makes sense, I think you put bridges with the starters to have 3 plus defenders around Brunson and Randle, and you put DDV in to microwave score and Hart in to out rebound and push the pace. It’s he type of dynamic you see with championship teams. They usually have a few guys who can start coming off the bench and just dominating.

Now Lauri is thrown into this anyone but Randle schick? Never mind the questionable health concerns, has he ever been in the playoffs to warrant such faith?
Naz Reid, would also be a great get for us and solve the same problem if he can play spread 5 while protecting the rim.

If we could trade Mitch and Randle for KAT we would have a pretty good death lineup
KAT

Love this thought - I think I proposed it earlier this year
KAT for Mitch and Randle
Bogey and picks for Bridges
Resign iHart. Bring DDV off the bench with Hart. Maybe Deuce is still here. Can resign Achiuwa as the backup 4.
iHart/Towns
Towns/Achiuwa
OG/Hart
Bridges/DDV
Brunson/McBride
As your regular season rotation.
Can cut Achiuwa out of it for the playoffs.
Run this team for 2-3 years and see what happens. This team should be able to contend
Team as constructed can contend.
Team as constructed is like the Championship Mavs, at best a one and done if all the chips fall just right.

Please trade Mitch. We need a big man that can catch the ball and actually finish dunks instead of miss soft layups

There's a lot of parity in the league these days. Just like Silver wants it.

Can Ingram function as a 2 with OG at the 3?
IF you believe the team needs another wing scorer.
Ingram could also run the offense when Brunson sits.
Ingram kind of injury prone like OG though, right?

It doesn’t make sense for LA to lose LeBron and AD but bring in Randle though.

He played a bit of pg/sg in LA when Lonzo would be out. He could technically play shooting guard

Randle could be an expiring for them if he opts out of his final year player option and they could let him walk to free up cap space or they could try to flip him at the deadline for more draft assets. We take on a bad contract of theirs with Vincent
Lebron will probably just stay on the lakers so it probably won’t happen but it’s an idea

Problem would be our POA defense would be pretty awful with Ingram at the 2. He's never graded out as a truly positive defender. At his best, he's been more net neutral on that end. We'd have nobody who could guard attacking guards. While OG is certainly an all-world defender, he's not a guy who you can really stick on the Maxeys, Trae Young's, etc.'s of the world.
The trade-off would be that our team would be massive and long (pause) and so in theory we could survive players getting into the paint because we could then suffocate them and have great rim protection.
While I do think Ingram is an offensive and overall upgrade over Donte, he's slowly regressed his 3 point attempts. One of the reasons Brunson was able to cook this year was because Donte's threat as a catch and shoot guy really helped open up the floor for Brunson. Ingram is a much more methodical player than Donte. While you gain more playmaking and shot-creating ability with Ingram you would lose the dynamic off-ball threat of DDV that helped make our offense so great this season.
I've always liked Ingram's game but, I think if you trade for him you have to do it with the intention of getting rid of Randle and i'm not sure if that is worth it. Or else I think you're creating a similar dynamic that Brunson/RJ/Randle created.

Ingram still eating off that 1x all star appearance 5 years ago. And his defense isn’t good, his defensive bpm has been negative all 8 years he’s been in the league. He has a large wingspan so people think he can play defense but that’s a scam reddish situation. Also he’s not a SG. Good news is he is 26 so I guess there’s upside but it’s not a player I’d back the truck up for. OG is the wing we need, he’s already here

Let's not over complicate this.
Bridges
1..went to Nova and was the best player on that team.
2. Still has an amazing relationship with our players and will fit right in.
3. Would be a perfect fit in style and play with our current coach.
4. Would make our team better. Which is a team that without injury would have gone to the ECF
5. He is a team first guy who would mess with any on the court chemistry.
You overpay and get Bridges at all costs. This guarantees us ECFat the least and makes us better than this past season.
