Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
It seems like the Hawks are gearing up to trade Young and it's likely they won't trade both, so Murray probably stays.

His contract at the moment might make him pretty alluring, particularly if the Hawks are selling at a price less than what they paid for him. If it's 2 future firsts (keep this year's pick) and Paul Reed, I'd be interested. Still have money to throw at FA, even top end ones.
I think you'd have to strike out elsewhere to consider. Not enough space left for a max salary, not enough picks left to make a major trade.

Murray would be just as terrible next to Maxey as he is with Young.
If we're calling the Hawks, get Bogdan Bogdanovic. Cheaper to acquire and a way better fit.

My brain says Murray could be our White/Jrue.
My heart says he actually has more Westbrook in him.

2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

Yeah, Dejounte is wack.
If we're trading away draft capital for a non-star, get one with size that will fit into a logical 5-man unit.
Bogdan Bogdanovic or Malcolm Brogdon would be perfects fits next to Maxey at SG.
Or call Memphis on Desmond Bane on the offchance you don't get hung up on.
Say no to munchkins!

He's like the exact opposite of Derrick White.
Dejounte Murray is the premier idea player. His defense is significantly worse than White's, less range too. Mostly due to how skinny he is. Similar phenomenon to Mikal Bridges. He doesn't have the strength and physicality to guard wings the way White/Jrue(/Caruso) can.
He also doesn't really space and needs to pound the rock to be effective. Typically why he only ever pops off when Trae is absent.
In a vacuum he isn't a bad basketball player, I just don't see the fit or how his skillset coexists with Maxey and Embiid.
He would give us another ballhandler and he's a very good lead playmaker in the half court. Can get to his spots off the dribble and is very routine at almost surgical at getting his midrange jumper off.

The more players names that get tossed around, the more I believe we should just throw the bag at Paul George. He's the best fit with Embiid/Maxey and you don't have to give up assets to get him.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
Dejounte is not the Hawks problem on either end. With that contract, he should be #1 option for the summer, as I said he should've been in January. Has played well off ball, and is a point of attack defender. Negates the idea to have to even think of keeping Melton unless they get him at a tremendous price. and you can keep Oubre and flexibility to do plenty more.
Offensively can shoot off the catch.... Aggressive enough to take over quarters, but does defer. However, at the end of the day, I Believe both Joel and Maxey are better off the ball

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
The Murray/Young failed backcourt was 100% percent the problem in Atlanta.
They had some fantastic 5 man units with one of them on the floor. Little to no success with both of them on the floor. Why would we want to do a remix of a failed experiment?
We already wasted Embiid's prime with a poor fit in Harris. I don't want to do the same to Maxey.

So is your determination that Maxey is similar to Trae and therefore Murray wouldn’t work here? I’m not going to pretend to have watched enough Hawks games to know the exact reason the Trae/Murray duo didn’t work, but I do feel like Trae is a more difficult guard to pair than Maxey. Maxey can play off the ball better than Trae, who needs the ball constantly. The Hawks also don’t have a big to pull defenders away from their guards like we do.
Idk it just feels like if Murray doesn’t work than who will?

IDK, Maxey proved himself to be a reliable lead guard. I think at this point, you keep the ball in his hands and let him cook. I'm not opposed to Murray next to him, but he's damn sure not my first choice, nor do I see him as an answer in terms of having a back court mate with Maxey.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
I think that pairing failed because Trae isn't great off ball. His rep as a shooter is moreso from the terrible shots he takes and sometimes makes. But he is pretty stationary off ball.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
I'd rather not take the ball out of Maxey's ball at all to accomodate a B-level on-ball guard. Maxey CAN play off-ball, but that's a different issue than if he SHOULD play off-ball.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
Maxey is very much a Tatum type player to me. So I'm 100% okay with taking the ball out of his hands. He's effective as a ballhandler in fast break scenarios but doesn't really have the creative handles to cook guys off the dribble on command. Also his shot is somewhat easy to block, so taking tough shots like Kyrie does is not something that comes particularly easily for Maxey. That said, he's excellent as a DHO/PnR ball handler with Embiid. I just think if there's 8 seconds left on the shot clock, I'd like someone who can get their own shot consistently as an option for once.

Agree, especially with the last part. To me, that type of player would be DeRozan instead of Murray.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
Wtf? PG is only a net positive addition because he doesn't cost anything to acquire. Adding picks would mean the end.

Maxey has gotten better every offseason so far so I hope he is working on some stop and start type creation moves

Well even if PG opts out, he's right. He's like the only real big free agent available. Most likely won't even hit the market.

I think he’ll come back a lot better this year as a creator. Similar to how Ant said “now I know what it takes” after they exited the playoffs last year, I think that Knicks series was a major education for him.
