I want to keep Randle. Someone has to keep these refs in place.

Knicks get: George and Deni
Clippers get: Randle and Diakite
Wizards get: Mitch, Bojan and Jeffries
Deni has an ideal deal relative to youth, production and upside.
A couple picks could be involved too.
Knicks could turn 24 and 25 this year into 16 or 18 and draft Dunn who is an absolutely elite wing defender.
Trading a huge salary like Randle's could work in a lot of scenarios. We just can't add more salary AND keep a huge contract like Randle's without penalty.
However, a lot of posters appear married to the idea that Julius MUST stay on this team -- but it's his salary that would be needed to make a significant improvement to the team under the new rules (assuming we keep OG, iHart, and Brunson).
I think fans should prepare themselves for the possibility that Julius may need to go in order to land a "star" or player(s) who can move the needle and take us to the next level. Salary cap-wise, we can't have it all.
I personally am 100 % ok with trading Randle. But it needs to be for the right superstar
In the case of a 34 year old, fairly injury prone PG I would prefer to keep Randle.
Can it work under the cap at least for 1 year? I'm guessing it would require some creativity but it's possible.

I can’t wait until we trade Randle and people finally start to realize that it’s pretty damn hard to replace 25/10/5 + a night with that amount of physicality and skill inside the arc.
He’s so under appreciated that it’s mind boggling. Just how much he wears down opposing players who have to guard him seems to be overlooked.

so many people are going to eat their words about randle

im with you man.
i understand the frustration tbf. he didnt deliver in both our playoff runs last years (though he was injured and playing on bum ankles both times) and he vents on the court, which is kinda bad leadership or setting a bad example sometimes.
but hes an all nba guy with a crazy motor and not afraid to put his body on the line, hes a bulldozer. we need him. i personally would never even consider randle for PG. even 1 for 1 straight up i would say no. imo PG is an elite player but what did PG really do in the playoffs? why do people think all of a sudden hes a playoffperformer? im riding with randle for sure. i only consider trading randle if it nets us a legit top 5-10 player and they are not getting traded anytime soon.

We talking about maximizing Brunson.
It's tough to find a stretch 5 who can shoot and defend. We only have KP, Myles Turner, washed Brooke Lopez, washed Al Horford, rookie Wemby and rookie Chet. Maybe we can add to that list Mobley, Sarr and Jokic (who does not shoot that well).
And maybe it's not necessary a stretch 5 to win.
The Wolves got better when they gave up Towns as a stretch 5. And people think OKC and SAS need a traditional big to defend.
GSW and Lakers used a traditional center and they were champions. Dallas hit the finals.
Besides, IHart is a good passer and can work outside the rim.

We can have Randle, PG13, Brunson and OG as a big 4. The issue is the rest.
To avoid being hard-capped in the first apron (or we can not re-sing OG) we have to give more salary than receive in the PG13 trade.
We can not hit the second apron (after attaching salaries in the PG13 trade).
So to land PG13, we have to trade Bojan, Mitch, and more 16M in salaries (don't count sign and trade Precious or Burks). We have to give up Hart or IHart (sign and trade), or Donte plus Deuce.

I love what he does inside the three-point line. If he stuck to his guns, he’d be my favorite player. He hasn’t done that, but if we keep him, I won’t be mad.
I don’t like the turnovers from over-dribbling or the easy passes he misses all the time because of that.

According to the Locked On Knicks guy, Julius is much more efficient with IHart on the court than Mitch.

im still wondering if he will ever be able to replicate that outlier year in 2020/21, where he shot 41% from three. maan just do what you did then
but yea i agree on those other points for sure. he needs to work on being more efficient attacking the rim and make better decisions.

A lot of good gems here, for anyone interested.

imagine OG at 40m per - his salary would be almost double brunson's salary (25m)

Coming to terms with the fact the Knicks won't be able to trade for anyone, plus they'll be trading at least one pick, and probably 2, out of the draft.
Yay.
Yay.

Well drafting has never been our strength anyway so I'm sure they will be included in whatever trade we put together between now and tomorrow evening...

The problem with Randle is his injuries. Thibs has to manage his minutes so he’s not run down at the end of the regular season. He needs to be 100% come playoff time.

We better not obtain PG at the cost of losing Ju. That's two steps back.
