This is gross.

While I understand the thought of us furthering a cluster at the guard spot and not fulfilling our need this is an amazing pick for us. Carter is the perfect fit next to creators like Fox and Monk depending on who he is out there with. He is also a great defensive guard that we need. This pick is beyond a steal for us.

As well Monte has always drafted with a BPA mindset

I'll admit my first reaction was overblown. It really had no reflection on the player, but rather the position, and lack of movement seeing Deni get traded prior to the draft.

Carter himself as a player does project as a great piece. The 4 guard rotation should be excellent. I'm just not seeing how you upgrade the front court without sacrificing the future further like we did with Huerter for likely another mediocre upgrade. I'll give it until August and see what the team looks like. Maybe Huerter/Davion still have value out there that I'm unaware of?

It makes a lot more sense now that Davion was moved. Obviously Carter is going to be a rookie, but he is an improvement across the board and he’s locked up cheaper and is younger.

Christie
McCullar
Freeman
Chomche
Ingram

all of these guys still on the board, all guys that would have made the roster and we're busy trading away picks and players for a worse player? Monte is an absolute buffoon. We WILL see Fox demanding a trade. We're so screwed

I like Crawford a lot. Very active with NBA size and athleticism. Could stick tbh. Very happy he chose us so we could kick the tires. Didn't make my Big Board though

Jones is jag. End of bench big depth but probably a G-League lifer.

Quite the overreaction, we are definitely not screwed. None of those guys would be making any sort immediate impact. If Fox's future with this team was dependent on the 45th pick in the draft then he already had his mind made up.

you'll see. Each will make NBA rosters and become contributors eventually. I heard the same pushback when I predicted we'd be fighting for a play-in after doing nothing in the offseason while everyone else improved. We're worse off now than we were then because POR, HOU, MEM, SAS teams behind us will have all improved considerably while we've done next to nothing. I might not watch much of the Kings in this coming season tbh. Maybe pick it back up once McNair is fired. We have to stop rewarding this owner with our dollars and attention or nothing is ever going to change.

that is a laughable embarrassment of a mock. The Ringer is a joke when it comes to NBA draft coverage and opinions. I don't understand how Topic makes much sense. It's the same reason why we didn't draft Luka (besides the fact that he steered his way to DAL) because we already had Fox who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Like it or not, Fox is our guy and he's proven to be a low-end #1 and we need to build around him and compliment him. I don't see how Topic does that since he's not an off-ball player, he doesn't defend and he's not a lights out shooter. Not to mention he's 19 y/o and has an injury that might mean he can't contribute and we need someone now. Now, if it's bpa, sure, Topic if he's still on the board would probably be bpa and if we were retooling around Sabonis and Fox was potentially on the move then I'd be all about Topic.

you always take bpa, even if Fox's position was set in stone ( I'm not even getting into that or the "he's our guy" bit). Thanks for pointing the glaring mistake that was first made not picking bpa by Vlade, but you take bpa and work from assets IMO. I haven't even studied Topic or know anything about him, but if Monte feels he's bpa he should draft him.

when you're rebuilding BPA. When you're trying to make the playoffs and win a playoff series, taking BPA doesn't always make sense. It's bad asset management and poor allocation of resources since that player, even if BPA at that time during the draft, might not be better than your current starter and in this case, would absolutely not be. It wouldn't address the holes we need to fill to compete now.

It was perfectly reasonable for PHO and us to pass on Luka since he can't play off-ball and was a bad shooter

Blade recently gave an interview about passing over Luka.

"I had De'Aaron Fox at that position, whom I drafted a year earlier. At that moment, I thought that Fox was a player who could become a franchise player in the future," Divac said. "Time will tell if I was wrong. As things stand now, it looks like I am, but I have faith in Fox that he will have a better career."

Divac clarified that not drafting Doncic had nothing to do with his relationship with Doncic's father Sasa. The former Kings GM said he has love and appreciation for the elder Doncic. Divac said he simply didn't think Doncic and Fox could play together, unlike how Doncic and Kyrie Irving fit together.

"Irving is a classic basketball player, just like Luka. Fox isn't, he's a player who needs the ball, just like Luka needs it," Divac said. "I could have taken Luka, but then I would have to trade Fox."
