How will the rotations look like?

Post#1 » by Stannis » Fri Jun 28, 2024 8:28 pm

Apologies if there is a thread already...

I'm curious what everyone will think the rotations will look like.

If iHart is gone, do you think Randle would actually see time at the 5?

Brunson / McBride -- ??Tyler
Bridges / DDV
OG / Hart
Randle / OG
Mitch / Randle

I'm assuming this will be the rotation but with hopefully iHart coming back and starting. You scared me a bit. I had to go check and see if iHart had signed somewhere else already before realizing free agency had not officially started.

I'm more curious about how the minutes will be distributed if the top 9 guys return. The starters 1-4 are all capable of playing 36 minutes but that would only leave 48 minutes to split between Deuce, DDV and Hart. Hopefully the starters minutes will be reduced some but I don't know how the bench minutes will be split up.

Even if the starters played 33 minutes each that would only leave 20 minutes each for Deuce, DDV and Hart. Thibs seems to love Hart so I wonder who may get the short end of the stick between Deuce and DDV.

It's gonna be:

240 possible minutes...

Brunson 32
Randle 32
Mikal 32
OG 30
Hart 29
DDV 27
Hartenstein 28
Mitch 20
McBride 10

9-man rotation. Deep bench minutes so starters can stay fresher come playoff time and a reduction of injury risk overall. The starters would also play more efficient minutes sine they wouldn't be missing as many shots due to late game fatigue. Every player would be sacrificing some minutes and some production in favor of efficiency and winning long-term. I think we can get full buy in. Only Mitch and Randle may complain or pout but I'm not certain... I think both realize what we're trying to accomplish here.

I would love to believe that but Thibs wasn't even playing Brunson 32 minutes with IQ behind him. We shall see. Hopefully he takes advantage of the depth in the regular season.

1) This is the deepest team Thibs has ever had.
2) He trusts all of these players.
3) All of these players deserve minutes so he has to spread things out.
4) The new medical head will lay down the facts to Thibs
5) Leon will lay down the facts to Thibs (and remind him of last year)
6) Thibs remembers last season's disappointing ending

I'm just going to wait and see who Thibs actually trusts this year. Sometimes his trust is largely dependent on what his other options are. When Precious was getting 40+ minutes a game people were saying that he entered Thibs trust circle but those minutes dropped from the 40's to 30' to 20's to single digits to DNP's in the playoff despite being shorthanded. Not that I disagree with reducing Precious' role because he wasn't always a good fit on the court but you didn't truly see who Thibs trusted until he had other options.

I still remember DDV being on absolute fire in December shooting 50% from 3 but only playing 20 minutes per game partially because his defense wasn't great next to Brunson. I still remember Deuce playing entire halves of games and then being benched for an entire half in the span of a few weeks. I still remember when people were complaining about IQ's minutes last year.

I want to see where Mikal falls in the trust hierarchy and what the trickle down effects will be. The team has depth and flexibility at full strength. I hope they have good health and they maximize their potential.

Who wants to bet me that even with all this depth stubborn ass Thibs has 3 of our players in the top 10 in minutes per game next year?

Im hoping Thibs felt the burn last year in the playoffs when everyone went down and he could have touched the ECF. Besides OG I don't see anyone else that would be upset with their minutes being reduced. He needs to take advantage of his whole roster as this maybe the deepest team he ever had. This includes resting the starters during garbage time.

We didn’t have anybody in the top 10 minutes per game last year

I'd almost like to see 2 co-equal units -- JB, Deuce, OG, Randle and Ihart, and the NOva 4 plus Mitch with alterations based on injures, fouls match-ups. Just want to have 80% of team healthy for Playoffs.

I-Hart or Gogu (28), Mitchell Robinson (20)
Randle (30), Bridges (5), OG(5), Hart (8)
OG(25), Bridges (12), Hart (11)
Bridges(15), DDV(25), Hart(8)
Brunson (32), DSJ/ Melton / Lowry (or McBride) (16)

-Hart, Bridges and OG getting minutes at multiple positions between 2,3 and 4 and all 3 playing elite level defense.

-Randle being the bully PF and low post guy at the 4.

-Hopefully a high level rim protecting Center like I Hart or Gogu as our starter
