Honestly right now even more desirable teams like Philly and Orlando who have cap space may struggle to get value.
I knew it was a bad summer to have cap space but it’s getting ridiculous at this point.
However low your expectations were it’s probably time to set them lower.

Yeah the only half-decent player I can see signing here is Tobias Harris. Naji Marshall maybe given the Langdon connection.
Otherwise it seems like we're just going to be taking on contracts for second rounders and kicking the can down the road once more.

Except once Cade’s extension kicks in next year there will be nowhere to kick it really. This was the last year we could make much use of it.
Weaver maintained lots of cap flexibility throughout his tenure but we’ve never done anything with it. And we are not in a position to make good use of it now.
I really hope I’m proven wrong on that point.

Our other current salaries (Stewart, Thompson, Ivey, Duren, Sasser, Holland) only make up ~50M for the 2025/26 season, so even if Cade's starting salary is in the 40M per year range we should still have a reasonable amount of space available given the cap will be ~145M.
Also depends on the rest of this offseason and if we either sign any FAs/take on contracts that go beyond the upcoming season.
But I agree, our use of cap space has been generally appalling.

All good reasons to consider trading Cade if we can get a huge package. I have been against it, but it might be the smart thing to do.

Being the worst and ignored franchise by the draft, FA and coaching isn't enough
Some people want to trade Cade for a couple of mid 1st

Good point. I forgot about agents not wanting their players to work out with us. Seriously, wtf is going on with this franchise? Is it our lack of a coach? Do other players hate Cade? Is there something more rotten with the ownership situation than even we realized? Is it just that the city of Detroit has a low national perception, it's a cold weather area, and we can't win for anything?
Lions are finally a team players want to suit up for. Maybe winning cures all? I can't help but thinking that raising our floor to treadmill status would be massively *beneficial* to us.

If we actually got a superstar we'd all be happy right now cause we'd be winning some games. Unfortunately all that tanking and all we got was a low end star and some decent prospects with huge questions marks by there name.MotownMadness wrote:Kalamazoo317 wrote:I hate tanking.
I can understand going through changes and bottoming out for a top 7 pick for a few years.
The whole process trying to lose like crazy thing is damaging though
