Two ways to view Charlotte cap space right now.

View 1: We operate as under the cap team.
- Jackson is traded for using Room exception (replaces MLE)
- Miles Cap Hold is 15
- We have 18 million~ in space to chase free agents. (or 33 million if Miles is renounced)
(would require Bertans to be waived)

View 2: We operate over the cap team
-Jackson counts against cap space.
- Miles is signed to X amount and we exceed cap.
- we have 12.8 MLE to sign free agent
(Bertans could be rostered still in this scenario)

View 1 is the route I would go.

A few moves that make sense potentially around the league.
1. Bucks moving Brook Lopez 23 million expiring- would get them under tax and be able to use MLE
Pistons could make sense
Orlando - WCJ trade for Lopez makes a ton of sense.

2. Lakers could look to move off Vandy/Vincent to open up more room under tax (MLE driven).
Salary dump potential for Utah, Charlotte, Detroit. JHS as payment?

3. Denver likely moves off Nnaji, so they can use full MLE on someone.

4. Miami likely retains at least one of Highsmith or Caleb Martin

5. Sixers will likely resign Melton now.
Maxey-Lowry
Melton- McCain
Oubre - Gordon
Paul George
Embiid- Drummond

Oubre got a 2 year / 16 million deal from the 76ers. Good for him.
Hope we can sign a couple guys today. Maybe reunite the Martins and add a C.

Need to get Murphy here. Tank hard. Then with a bit of luck, you select Flagg in 2025

Reunit Cooper and Murphy.

Ball - Murphy - Miller - Flagg - Williams

Stellar starting 5 and no black hole in defense

I’m totally on board with tanking, and it’s sad, because tanking should never be the path forward, but tanking this year could be crucial for our young core.

The East sucks right now, I really don't want to tank when Chicago, Brooklyn, Detroit, Washington and Toronto aren't very good.

45 wins probably puts us in the conversation for a top 6 seed in the East next year.

Boston-Milwaukee-New York-Philly are probably 1-4, but Cleveland, Indy, Miami, Orlando are better than us but also not powerhouses.
Especially when it is likely 1-2 teams will struggle with injuries.

Atlanta and Us are on the outside looking in, but are both still young teams that could have internal improvement that speeds up timeline.

Anyone down for kicking the tires on Wiseman if he can be had for the vet min? No real risk in doing so...

His warts are apparent, especially defensively, but he's still only 22 and talented. Was flipping channels during the final day of the season and watched him put up a 21/17 line.

Such a reasonable deal, but I guess it’s not a tank move.

I’m trying my best not to get negative . . .

Once again we can't do anything because of Miles. This is 3 off-seasons in a row of him hurting this team.

This feels kind of unfair. We could create like $30M in cap space simply by cutting him. We're choosing to pursue him, he's not forcing himself on our cap sheet.

Given the FA crop this summer, I'm not thinking we would have been particularly active anyway.

The new regime is not pushing to win now, or that's my read on everything they've done so far anyway. I don't think they wanted or expected to make a big splash in FA this year even in a world where Miles wasn't in the equation for us.

Lee is going to see how the young core look while implementing his program and then the team will proceed from there. Best we get this summer is Miles and a few deals around the edges of the roster like Curry and a 3rd center.

In any case out of all the contracts given out so far Jalen Smith is the only one that seemed like a reasonable fit for us at a decent price.
