I bet the FO is struggling with trading Cole-the-player because of Cole-the-person. That has to be tough.

I’m pretty sure the plan all along has been for Moe to come back via the room exception.

The problem with that is that it requires the Magic to spend through most of their salary cap space which they haven’t done yet.

I’m guessing Jonathan Isaac is going to get a pretty significant (and not deserved) bump in salary this year to get a cheaper extension on the books.

It’s certainly not what I would do, but they have to spend the money somewhere.

Harris is made of glass which should open up minutes.

I have no idea about Cole + Black on those days I expect it to happen.

Then there is the Mo / Ingles question which it seemed like we were open to resigning both.

Dark horse option, what if Harris is the 3rd stringer in this case? or Black is the SF new ingles?

I’m not saying Black won’t play at all. Obviously there will be injuries.

I’m just looking at this through a “when everyone is available, here’s who’s playing and who isn’t” lens.

Same lens I am looking at. I am asking the question, am I looking at it the right way.

Best SL available seems easy peasy.

After that? Well, a healthy Gary Harris is likely the second string. But, we don't know what we don't know. Harris might just be kept on as a mentor to Suggs. I saw that in the playoffs and called it then. It is a "chemistry" fit short term.

Similarly speaking, if I straight up ignore Anthony Black and Jett. We have seriously addressed shooting.

SL
Suggs
KCP
Paolo
Franz
WCJ

Key pieces added to address shooting
De Silva (he may or may not get playing time, well see based on positional need)
KCP
Harris

Essentially our worst 3-ball % guard is now Cole Anthony and our worst % forward is Franz Wagner which I think he will fix because it was a very bad year for him.

Yes, I would like to see Paolo improve from the 3 as well. Point I am making is there are enough moves on the roster to suggest that outside of Cole Anthony / Franz we will be fine. Now is it enough? Let's wait and see.

I don't bet, but I think AB will be there one way or the other. Maybe he beats out da Silva and plays the backup 3.

I mean is he though? Paolo to me is the only untouchable.

No one is ‘untouchable’.

You, and everyone else, would trade Paolo for Joker in a second if given the opportunity.

If we’re trading Suggs it better be in a package for a player like Booker… not a fringe all-star like Garland.

Garland should net what Atlanta got for Murray, which didn’t include a Suggs-level player.

I dont’t know if any of you ever play auction fantasy basketball. This team is like the guy who saves his money in the auction while all the stars get bought at high $ and then the guy with all the money left over gets all the guys in the middle, ends up having someone really good at the end of the bench.

The opposite of stars and scrubs.

The problem with our approach?

The final 2 minutes of every close playoff game usually is the same 5 guys that started the game.

This team is probably too deep for its own good.

They have like 13 guys that we want to see play. It would probably be better if they had like 9 of them and some of the 9 guys were better than the top 9 they have now.

So going back to the Goga signing. I’m seeing one of two things happening here.

1. We’re not bringing back Wagner.
2. We’re looking to trade Carter.

Just can’t imagine we’re going to pay a third stringer $8 million.

And I’m a fan of both Wagner and Carter but for the better of the team I’m leaning toward trading Carter myself.

There is way too much pessimism on this board for a team with no bad contracts currently and plenty of assets. Weltman is risk averse for sure, but that doesn't mean he'll never make a big trade for a star if he sees a good opportunity for this.

And-1

Right now it is very hard to image a less-than 11-man rotation. That's gonna lead to ego issues.

This says our off-season added 6 wins. I don't even think this factors in player development. 53 wins LFG

Have to think it’s for a future trade, of course I have thought they were grooming Gary Harris every year for a trade.

Almost like we signed Harris just so another team couldn’t get him on a tax payer mle or vet minimum

I think its about how he's handling assets that bugs people the most.

If you are a contending team its perfectly fine to bury your rookie contract guys. He is neither consolidating the young talent + picks for a star in a trade, and he isnt playing his youth. You can't really afford to do both if you are still looking to add to your roster. Orlando isnt in the position to not be upgrading positions on the roster.

Point Guard and Center are SUPER skeptical positions right now. They are taking a risk by reinventing the wheel and deciding to go without a playmaker/ ball handler in the back court and a sub par defensive Center that isnt a great rebounder considering Paolo is neither of those things either.

They basically chose veteran depth over developing assets to move later for positive value or play.

Caruso must be worth a ton of production statistically

As it relates to the Magic this chart only shows KCP, surely Goga adds a bunch too

I’m with you guys too. I think the team got better this offseason and things are going the way they planned in the front office. This Magic team will likely do better than some of these top heavy star teams because they are built deep to persevere with injuries.

Curious what happens with the Suggs and Franz extensions now that free agency has made it even more obvious the team is relying heavily on both.

My recollection is that this FO waits until the last minute when it comes to the rookie extensions, 10/23 this year
