Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
Indeed, now that Tatum re-upped there isn't the same buzz around next summer's FA crop.
Mitchell still may hold out, but even that's looking bleak, and I'm doubtful he would want to jump into the void with us rather than continue with a young, competitive squad that he's known.
Ingram seems the odd man out in New Orleans. His defense never lived up to the potential, and his efficiency and shot diet are not star caliber. But he's very good, and worth pursuing.
Utah is trying to move Lauri now before he leaves for nothing. So, whichever team trades for him will probably have assurances that he'll extend our re-sign. I know that assurances are not binding or CBA legal, but we see it happen.
All that said, it's still worth going into 2025 with 80mil or more in cap space, and seeing who shakes loose.

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
I was looking forward to going after Lauri or Mitchell (or both) when Simmons came off the books.
Now taking a contract expiring the following Summer for young players or draft capital in exchange for Simmons expiring contract might be interesting.

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
Mitchell agreed to an extension. Tatum was never leaving BOS. Unlikely Ainge lets Markanen get to FA without trading him, and unlikely a team trades for him without an extension.
Next summer is going to be all about trades and teams that decide they need to do what nets just did with bridges -
Fox will be entering his last year in SAC,
maybe Trae is on the market again,
does Booker ask out if the Suns move KD?
memphis is interesting bc J3 is coming up, but if they dont play well with ja/bane does one of them shake loose?
im not saying any of those guys change anything dramatically for the Nets but i think this rebuild (or any) is going to be about progressively building up.
it could be the boston route where they get stars from drafts.
it could be the knicks route where they find randle/brunson as castoffs the rest of the league didnt value as much as they should have then start adding.
i dont think there will ever again be a kyrie/kd FA haul bc the NBA has seemed to legislate that out. guys extend early vs waiting for FA now.

probably the best DFS possibility left on the table - JHS and a draft asset? Doubt they can get both JHS and a FRP, but maybe they can get a good unprotected swap.

yea 2025 Free agency is a dub now . The best player is Ingram and after that is Franz Wagner who will be probably get resigned and then it's a falloff of talent from there. We just gotta pray we get lucky in the draft and get a real game changer that player want to play with.

the way id approach this rebuild is a lot like when Marks first got here, except obviously with a lot more draft assets and as a franchise a lot more cache. Remember his first few years here when they had cap space they couldnt even get interest from top free agents.
id be keeping an eye on some of these teams who are ascending but now hitting the aprons, so they wont have money for everyone. OKC, ORL, CLE, SAC, IND, HOU, MIN. Traditionally a lot of those teams don't pay luxury tax, and there are back of roster young players who were high picks on all of them who could be there for poaching as RFAs.
My goal would be in the next 12 months to acquire at least 1 recent first round player via cash/trade in addition to whoever they get in the 2025 lotto. Basically steal another team's Cam Thomas. Unless i've missed an extension next year's RFA class looks pretty legit - suggs, jalen green, mobley, giddey, kuminga, franz, moody, sengun, tre mann, jalen johnson, etc. many of them will extend but some of them wont.
id consider isaac okoro right now. if CLE matches, it makes it that much harder to extend mobley. okoro is a solid starter and former 5th overall pick entering his age 24. i think that's at least worth a max multi-year NTPMLE.

I really hope this deal doesn't happen, unless the team is getting multiple picks back too. Which I doubt is the case. But it looks like it may be a troll Twitter account (correct me if I'm wrong). But I did see another tweet that said they were talking:

Lauri is going to hit free agency. Unless Utah or another team uses cap space to renegotiate and extend him, he'll be set to earn a lot more in FA than on an extension. San Antonio is probably the only team that can pull that off.
If Marks can draft well, sign a very good FA, even if not a "star", he can use the picks to trade for another one, this could be a 1 year tank. Pie in the sky thinking, draft Flagg, sign Markkanen or Ingram, trade for Fox could yield a playoff team in one year.

I read the rumor too. Would not make sense for either side, imo.Packers+NetsWIN wrote:Packers+NetsWIN wrote:

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
yeah that's a troll account of "NBA Central"
But good morning to the Lakers who just settled things up with Lebron. Maybe now buyers for a wing? I can see Cam Johnson fitting in there like a glove.
And it seemed like a bunch of DFS to the 76ers rumors were circling yesterday too. Remove the restriction on the Philly 27 pick we own, plus a 2029 pick for DFS?
Also, are there any realistic buyers for Bogie this offseason? Or is he a guy that's looking likely to stick around until his contract is up, like Ben?
It just seems more and more likely that Cam and DFS are going to get moved this offseason.

Wiggins doesn't fit out timeline as we would want him off the books in 2026.
If they want someone to eat Dramond's contract he would come off the books when we need him to.

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
I looked up Sean Wright's profile. He doesn't seem all that plugged in, but I would not say he's a troll by any means.
Now, NBACentel is a well known troll account, the Wiggins for Simmons swap doesn't even work legally either. But I do think there is some hint of truth to this. Whether Sean can extract enough value out of GSW to justify helping them out of cap Hades is yet to be seen.

I think whoever trade for Lauri will sign him to max deal . I have a feeling the Pelicans or Spurs will end up with him. Someone suggested Lauri to Pels, Ingram to Kings and players/picks to Utah and that makes alot of sense. if that happens than I doubt Markk and Ingram hits FA.

agreed, SAS seem like great fit. tons of compelling picks (via ATL).
cp3
vassell
keldon
lauri
wemby
would be a really interesting group moving forward. Castle and some other high picks on the bench. would still have tons of draft ammo.
loser of Lauri seems like a good candidate for CamJ trade too.

Probably, but he's not signing that max on an extension. It'll be in free agency. It would probably be a Siakam situation. He can dictate where he's willing to re-sign though, much the way Siakam made it clear he would stay in Indy, but not in Sacramento.

Is Lauri actually that good?
Looks the part on offence but his defence is soft and has never played on a decent team
