Nats Note: A source with knowledge of the situation said the Nationals traded reliever Jonathan Albaladejo to the New York Yankees in exchange for right-hander Tyler Clippard, pending physical examinations of both players. The 22-year-old, who went 3-1 with a 6.33 ERA filling in for the Yankees this year, has a 3.52 ERA over five minor league seasons. He should immediately be a contender for Washington

Abraham just confirmed that the Washington Post is reporting the deal. In my humble opinion, if you could get anything for Clippard you take it. He obviously is nothing more than a 5th starter especially in the AL. We do need bullpen assistance so I say good deal.

Good move, nice to see we're making strides to improve the bullpen, and Clippard just didn't fit in this rotation. He could possibly be a formidable pitcher in the NL though, all the best to him.

nice trade for us but on a side not, i really like what the nats are doing this offseason. clipp will be a pretty good NL pitcher so it's good for them.

I've always been a Clippard fan and feel that he has a future in the majors, but in the past year or two, we've moved about 20 better pitching prospects into the minors.

I'll preface this: I've never seen him pitch.

That said, what proof is there that he's a AAAA pitcher? He's still young, he's only been in the majors a month and his numbers look nice from that limited period. Strictly from that standpoint, this is a good acquisition. Realistically, Clippard was the odd man out in terms of our pitching prospects and was never getting a starting gig here. Trading him for a middle reliever was a smart move.

Tyler Clippard to me is nothing more then a NL verison of Sean Henn. i am not that big on his abilities. with that said i never heard of this other dude so trading for a young reliever could be a Crazy good deal as long as Cash knows something about this guy

This reliever had a good year last year and he's had very good numbers in the minors. He has good control and strikes people out.

You can never have too many relievers and with Joba moving to the rotation another young reliever wouldn't be a bad idea. Its certainly better than overpaying for the crap on the market.

Yea, Clippard would have never been anything more than an occassional spot starter if he stayed here. We have quite a few guys who can fill that role so we might as well deal him to help our bullpen depth.

It's amazing how Clippard was the next great Yankee pitcher just a year ago to some here and now a year later he's traded for some fungible middle reliever. This is why you need to sell high on certain prospects, their value will never be higher.
