I don't think Herro is viewed as an albatross contract. A lot of ppl like to trash him every chance they get but the reality is he's too good of a player to simply dump the way some fans want to, and if you're looking to acquire that impact player on a larger deal he has the contract to help make the math work. Regarding Duncan, if they had more picks they could shed him. Hell there's probably a trade they could make right now that involve taking a player back with similar money its probably a matter if they have the appetite to do that vs. waiting on something else to materialize.
I dont think Herro is an albatross, he is just not worth the money he is being paid. That factored with this being a steep curve with the new CBA he is not a valued player, at least not if you value winning, and not if you value cap space which is in high demand, and not if you are trying to get some athletic fan favorite, or to have has the face of a franchise.
In 3 to 4 years with the new media deals, Herro won't look that bad, but by that point it will be time to either resign him or watch him leave in free agency. In that time a 6th man should be getting close to 30 mil a year, so assuming we cant trade him, it would not be crazy to see the front office talk themselves into giving him another 3/90 or 4/120 deal when you factor in the jump in the cap. That might be a nightmare for some.
