Of course context matters, but we received more for Deni than Chicago did Derozan and the Hawks did Murray

Word on the street was sac was looking to land damage and Kuz?
They still could do something like that but I have a hard time believing they might give up the first for him when they didn't for derozen.

Derozan was a 35-year-old free agent.
Murray is 27-years-old, has a contract twice as expensive as Deni's, and Atlanta actually got more than we got for Deni. They got two FRP's, a useful vet in Larry Nance Jr. (equivalent to Brogdon) and they also got Dyson Daniels - a recent lotto pick.

Seems like the best window to trade Kuzma for the best return may have closed, perhaps we really just don’t want to trade him..

2025 Lakers FRP and 2027 least favorable of MIL/NO FRP (both could be picks in the 20s). You can make the argument the 2 SRPs we received are just as valuable as Daniels, who’s been ok but not great so far especially for his draft position. At worst I think we got equal value for Deni, but as you mentioned his contract was a lot friendlier.

In that case, let’s go ahead and trade a couple 2nd round picks for Dyson Daniels.

Based on history, he will be traded on his terms. Right now, he wants to be here.
I abhor Silver

I think it's a deni situation unless we get an offer over what we have him valued at he kind of gets to choose his own adventure.WallToWall wrote:closg00 wrote:Seems like the best window to trade Kuzma for the best return may have closed, perhaps we really just don’t want to trade him..

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVI
Except next year the Kings look like they have all their own 1st round picks from now to 2031. Next year''s pick is lotto protected 1-12, or 1-10 in 2026. If it doesn't convey it would covert to consecutive 2RPs in 26 and 27. But they likely lose it next year.
They also have Portland's unprotected 2nd rounder in 2025 and have all their own 2nd round picks except 2030. Not loaded with extra picks but they do have them all available for trade if they truly want Kuzma.

Praying...
I think SAC may be able to work around this and just offer one of their 1sts if they can get another 1st for shipping Huerter to a 3rd party. For instance, would ORL be willing to offer DEN 2025 1st for Huerter+ say 2 2nds? They surely need shooting...

I'd do it for one FRP (unprotected) plus two SRP's.
I really don't have a lot of faith in that Sacramento roster against a very strong Western Conference. It wouldn't surprise me if they finished 7th or 8th in the 2026-27 season, with another 5 or so East Conference teams also finishing ahead of them. That would make the pick the #18 or so pick in 2027. And there's a small chance they lose a play in and end up in the lottery.
Betting on Sacramento to screw up just seems like a pretty good idea to me.

I like the idea -- best, obviously, w/ 2 R1 picks coming back. But nate's version also works for me.
Hope it happens today!

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVI
I feel like this whole descending salary thing is a double-edged sword with Kuz. On one hand, it gives us obvious financial flexibility and lowers the urgency for a trade. On the other hand, if I'm an opposing GM, and I see that someone willingly went back to one of the worst teams in the league on a team-friendly deal, how valuable is that player?
It's clear to me that teams can see through the stats and understand that Kuz has been a solid tank commander, but if he goes to any other decent team, he's at best a third option. In Sacramento, he'd be the 4th option. Idk about you all, but I'm not giving up multiple FRPs for a fourth option. Dawkins' price is going to have to go down if he's serious about trading Kuz. Nothing wrong with an aggressive initial ask, but the market has spoken. Frankly, it spoke last summer when neither Sacramento nor Houston opted to sign him outright.

I guess you're being ironic because he does not have a no trade clause, although the Wiz brain trust apparently gave him an informal one with a potential deal to the Mavericks at the trade deadline.

I think he meant that he hopes Kuzma waives his 15% trade kicker. If he doesn't, the deal becomes harder to pull off.

Apparently Wizards and LeBron are the only players eligible for NTCs in 2024.
