Yeah there’s a lot of ifs here, but if he stays healthy for a long time, and no one emerges to be a generational talent along with him - ie if Sinner proves to be more Murray/Wawrinka/DelPo - this could be the most dominant era in history.

Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [NO Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
Sinner can challenge him, he just needs to get his 5 set fitness in order. He's on that level from a skill perspective IMO when he's fit, but Alcaraz is just a freak of nature in his physicality & endurance to pair with the skill/talent.
Nadal had that at an early age too, similar to Alcaraz, which is why he was a multi slam winner super early on as well, and was going toe to toe with prime Fed as a teenager. But for Novak it took until he was 24 to get there, where he could match or even outdo Nadal in those grueling wars of attrition. So Sinner could absolutely still level up and get there, but we'll see.
Also I'm just gonna throw this name out there, and it won't mean anything in the next couple years, but keep an eye on him beyond that: Joao Fonseca

It's just how long Alcaraz will get to dominate before someone comes along. I still believe in Sinner, too (big time actually), but he's a step behind Alcaraz at this point. And if he stays there, Carlito could end up with a Federer-like run of dominance. It's ancient history at this point, but 12 of Fed's grand slam wins came before Djokovic won his first, or Nadal won his first non-RG slam. He was utterly automatic for like six straight years because he didn't have other generational guys challenging him. I'll be interested to see if Alcaraz can rattle off something like that.

Alcaraz had a harder time with Tiafoe and Paul. I was busy this morning and turned it on right when alcarez choked match point multiple times, which was worrying, but he fought back excellently.

Yeah you just never know when some generational talent is gonna burst on the scene (like Rafa in 05) or a young, super talented but not *quite* generational talent takes a leap and becomes generational (like Djokovic in 11). I'm kinda leaning towards Sinner falling into that latter category, whether that happens next year or the year after. The first category though, we just have no **** clue lol. I threw out the name Joao Fonseca, and worth mentioning Dino Prizmic as well, but again who the hell knows, they could completely plateau and never truly make it.

Ita a preseason game right?

Glad to see Alcaraz taking over for Nadal as the Spaniard I can't stand.

Yeah last one. That either means they're going to play everyone to prepare them for the first regular season game or rest everybody.

US embarrassing themselves at the Copa. And not just the men's team, but the organizers who seemingly couldn't prevent the final from delayed over an hour because of their difficulties managing the fans trying to enter the stadium. Doesn't bode well for the 2026 World Cup.
Edit: Based on what I'm reading, it sounds like CONMEBOL is to blame, as they apparently did not pay for the same security operation that usually accompanies matches at Hard Rock. Fans were streaming in without tickets, including through vents and climbing into the stadium. Fans showed up to their seats to see them occupied by unticketed **** without any security intervention, while others didn't get in with legitimate tickets. Security apparently didn't bother to check fans for weapons, etc, just letting them in. What a ****.

Rankings and lists are always hard but I find this ESPN one to be just awful on purpose

I'd avoided clicking on it since I saw the link a couple nights ago, but I just gave in.
Yes, ranking the top 100 most accomplished athletes since 2000 wasn't quite so easy after all
What did Calvin Johnson accomplish to put him ahead of hundreds (thousands?) of more accomplished athletes? Six Pro Bowls, three 1st team APs is the exact same amount as Davante Adams. Adams also lead the league in TDs twice. I'm guessing Adams isn't going to be on the list.
I don't know why that's the first one to bug me.

I mean, Johnson did set the single season yards record that was there for almost 30 years.
Aaron Rodgers somehow comes in 35 spots lower.

The Rodgers ranking is absolutely absurd. I **** hate the guy at this point and still think it's ridiculous; nullified the whole list.
I think it quite literally may be awful on purpose. This feels like ESPN's M.O. at this point. They don't care about the content as long as it makes people click and talk.

Johnson broke Rice's record from 1995.

Well, the internet lied and told me 1985.
I blame Sterling Sharpe erasure.

Yeah, I'm the same. I keep seeing snippets and being confused at how Rodgers would be lower than *insert random athlete* on the list.
