Would be hilarious if that's why they picked him.

Simple plebeians like us couldn't possibly understand that kind of revenue-minded strategic approach when it comes to building an NBA roster. These type of moves on the margins can legitimately save a fistful of dollars. Can change the entire complexion of the spreadsheet in one under the radar brush stroke.

If he gives 120% while only getting paid 114% I consider that a "win."imo

Horst did a great job with this pick.

Johnson gives off that 1970’s ABA vibe. Absolutely love it.

He’s Michael Jackson from Off the Wall era

He’s Dr J on the Squires

His body just has to hold up. But love the pick.

That eurostep through traffic where it looked like he was running on stilts made my jaw drop and then immediately wince because I thought his legs were gonna buckle.

He’s a slippery as hell player, and should showcase that more as he gets more comfortable. His shot also looks pretty good if he can focus on setting his feet better.

He looks pretty special out there.

The thin legs/knees have to hold up to that torque of the stop/start. There is some Shaun Livingston injury concern here.

But the guy’s game looks like young Dr. J.

I don't think there is any chance he is ready to play 15 minutes. It would be great for his growth, but he needs minutes against bodies with real coaching and the ball in his hands. He would only see minutes with the main team if we are blowing teams out. The Herd is for sure the right play at the start of the season. He has tools and needs to be honed. Maybe if he takes incredible leaps in training camp.

Whatever happened down there might end up being massively fortunate circumstances for us.

i believe he got put on a team that was like 3-23 the year before and had a coach on a super hot seat that just played vets in a desperate attempt to keep his job

Ive been bitching and moaning for a while now about the Sixers finding Maxey, the Warriors finding Poole (i know), and the Lakers finding Reaves. I am so happy that we have a guy that has a chance to be special.

Gotta keep it in perspective though. When i think about him against NBA starters, i know its not going to look good right now. He has a long road ahead. Getting bigger and playing through contact are going to be the biggest keys. That and the jumper, obviously.

To be a good offensive guard you almost always need a jumper, but the thing the elite offensive guards have in conjunction with their jumper is an effortless ability to get to the rim.

That latter aspect is one that’s basically not coachable since it’s much more reliant on natural athleticism, shiftiness, and feel. I think AJ has this.

Work on his frame, so he can finish through contact when he gets to his spots. Let him run offensive sets and see if he can further develop his playmaking for others. Continue to work on his jumper on the catch, off movement, and off the dribble.

He really does fly around the court doesn’t he? Takes some really wide angles to the hoop though; would love to see him get better about that.

For what its worth, Russillo was talking about AJ (before last night's game) and, roughly translated, he sees something with him. He gave a very dramatic pause about it. He doesn't just do that. I was aroused
