Kolek news is extremely positive. Loved the way he has played this summer league. Signing of Terry Johnson doesn’t seem so wild now.

I don't understand this earnest talk of depth charts when camp doesn't open for like two months...how about they get the actual Knicks roster on the court and play together, some preseason games and oh, maybe the season can actually start when it really does matter about depth charts.

The depth charts in the middle of July doesn't mean squat. OMG who is ahead of who in Cancun?!?!?

With that being said where does Terry Johnson fit in the depth chart? Ahead or behind Cam?

Rookie Tyler Kolek is currently the backup point guard, ahead of Payne, per people familiar with the matter. The Knicks were thrilled to get Payne last week. (He signed for a veteran’s minimum deal). At the moment, he is viewed as the third lead guard behind Kolek, who had a very strong Summer League.

Rose has been pretty good about not letting the Knicks get exposed in trades but the center spot might be the one time he has to let it happen a bit to get the depth they need because of the circumstances.

There may have been one or two guys they let slip by in FA that could have helped if those players were even interested in coming to NYK but there's not alot that could have been done to change the circumstances.

The Cam and Terry signing might have been with the insight that it may cost them Deuce to get it done as many fans have always felt as it unfolded so hopefully the outrage won't be too severe. We will miss Deuce but please Rose do it for the right guy, not just a guy.

How good of a player to you expect to get if there’s no rotation minutes for them? I know you can pretty much bank on OG getting hurt but that probably means you’re just getting his back up 4 minutes. Is that really worth it to come here to play 13 mins a night for around 30 games?

There are still vets available on the market you can sign for the miminim like Hayward, Kennard, Osman, Shamet, Jae Crowder, Justin Holiday to have at the end of the bench. Those guys know they will get minutes only if a guy infront of them is injured.

Feel like most of those guys are washed already but sure it wouldn’t be the end of the world to bring Jae crowder in.

I just double-checked and Jay Huff is still not signed. Currently playing on Orlando's SL team and playing well. I don't see Orlando signing him, they already have quite a few Cs on that team ahead of him. Where would he ever play? Meanwhile over here, we all know Mitch will break down at some point.

We have an immediate need. I say fill it immediately with Huff. Doesn't mean we can't still talk to these other teams about Nick Richards, Walker Kessler, Clint Capela or whoever else (and where have those talks really gone? Not even sure I want to surrender any remaining tradable assets for any of these guys anyway)... All I'm saying is go get Huff in the fold right now while we continue to explore these other options...To me, he'd be GREAT insurance and we could all take a breath...

Huff would cost peanuts, maybe we only offer a two-way contract to start with the real possibility of expanding into a a full NBA contract at a later date. Or if it took more than that, I think I might be down for that too... I think either way. the cap impact would be negligible... I could be wrong but from what I can see, I don't think it would put us in any jeopardy as far as approaching the 1st cap apron or anything.

According to NBAdraft.net about 3 years ago. Huff measured 7’0.5” barefoot, 7’2.0” in shoes 9’6.0” standing reach, 234.2 lbs, and 7’2.75” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine. I have to be honest, before a few days ago, I didn't even know who this dude ways.. I was tuning into Orlando SL to watch Tristan da Silva play, and saw this HUGE big man rebound the ball and go coast to coast for a dunk and was like oh ****, who the heck is that guy?!? So then I started to deep dive him -- he's got some NBA experience with a couple of different teams (the Lakers, Washington) and whenever called upon he produced. He also played real well in the GL, I think he was just the defensive POY down there. Overall, an all-star level performer.. I mean at 7'2" 240-ish with his skill set, he should be an automatic for the Knicks right now, given our situation.. This dude can play in the post, step out and shoot 3s like Kevin Love and defend the rim...

When I look back at the Hartenstein signing, everyone thought it was a good signing at the time -- his per-36 minute numbers projected real well, but none of us really knew how good he would be (not to say he was ever Pat Ewing out there, he wasn't. He was and will always be backup C material to me, let's keep it real, albeit a good backup C). And if you remember, he wasn't even good right away. Finally when Mitch broke down in year 2 of Hartenstein's tenure, that's when we started to see his worth... I mean I'm sorry, all due respect to Hartenstein, happy he got his bag but thank god we couldn't/didn't give him the money OKC did. As well as he played, he's still a limited player in my mind. I think you could make a real good case that Huff is or very well could be a much better NBA C than Hartenstein. They're both the same age (26), only Huff's bigger and much more silled, esp. offensively. Hartenstein might be a better rebounder but not by much (I think Huff could hold his own here even though at that size he doesn't look to be a great rebounder to be fair), and we all know Hartenstein is a good pocket passer to cutters (Huff can do this as well btw, I've seen it---very good feel for the game, but in every other area, I think I'd take Huff. Huff really has a little unicorn to him (over 7" with LEGIT offensive skills). Dude even has some fire and intensity to him.

With Keita Bates-Diop, I'd even make the case that we don't really need Achiuwa back, even though I'd welcome him back, he was good for us... But save the money there if you had to.. I'd love to get this dude Huff instead.

After Huff, who would be my first choice, I think Omer Yurtseven would be another great option and I've been talking about him for a couple of weeks now.. Utah waived him and he's still unsigned. ****, go get both guys right now!

The front office must really not like Precious.

The fact is we need a big that can give us about 18mpg while Mitch is healthy and 30mpg when he is out. Would you really trust any of the FA centers with that load? Would you trust Kessler or Richards?

I'm seriously worried they are talking to Chicago about Vucevic. He is not worth our remaining trade assets (including Deuce).

To his credit Huff was the NBA G-League Defensive Player of the Yeat in 2022-2023. Watching some of his G League game tapes and what’s interesting is that he was used kinda like how Timofey Morton was used defensively when Mozgov was with the Russian National team under David Blatt.

I like how mobile and agile he is for a big 7 footer. Some ball handling and shooting skills. Nice body control. I’d be interested in seeing more of him for sure.

I heard that the reason Precious hasn’t signed is that the Knicks are trying to work out a sign and trade deal for him where he’d get more (potentially a lot more) than what offers he’s got as a FA. Of all the many players rights that they have floating out there to potentially work their magic Precious is the one that can net the biggest contract size which is very valuable for the Knicks if they plan on making a trade. Does appear that the Knicks don’t see him as an ideal C especially if Mitch goes down.

I would trust Kessler and Richards to start.

I think Tom want's two 7 footers, and if they do keep Precious he'll be used as the backup 4, he had his best games playing next to IHart.

Can they play center? Can they block shots, rebound, score around the basket, guard big men?
