I get it's not the main stage. But you could do a team like DeRozan/Ingram/McCollum/Grant and blow teams out. They end their careers with Olympic gold medals.

It doesn't work out like that. You need to participate in 3x3 events to be eligible.
Pro players would need to take a sabbatical, just for this competition, and that is not going to happen.

Don't know why you're acting like Serbia is just some random team, probably out of ignorance.
There are no "teams like Serbia" in 3x3, look at the all-time medal table in 3x3 world cups:

I think they are rank first in the world. The team didn’t have a chance it seems

Well, that's a dumb rule that should be revoked. The 5x5 team consists of players that didn't play on the FIBA team. I've never heard of 3 of the players. Nobody wants to watch this team. But DeRozan/Ingram/McCollum/Grant playing street ball would be bad ass to watch. And if some swimmer can get 10 medals, they deserve the right to compete for one.

That's what I'm complaining about. Fredette shouldn't be the best basketball player on an Olympic basketball team. At least put some college kids like Cooper Flagg in.

Or bring in Carmelo Anthony, Isaiah Thomas, DeMarcus Cousins, etc. As toast as players like that are, they can't be worse than this and at least they're worth tuning into.

Ok I just watched that replay of JPN-FRA to see what was the outrage... yup to me it was some serious home-cooking. That wasn't a foul at all. Maybe the ref has some super 4k-HD that shows contact..who knows

You goy people fighting for their whole careers in these games, people in countries who don't give a damn about basketball giving it their all because they have dedicated their bodies to pursuing a sport that many think is irrelevant. That kind of motivation, next level. These "bad" teams are not out here to give you easy wins. Teams got to bring it every game and its amazing to watch, anyone can get got.

Imagine watching this all your life
Then a couple of your favourite players go to the NBA, so you're like ok I gotta watch some of that now, and you tune in and you're watching some teams actually trying to lose, stars taking every 3rd game off, other veteran teams simply not caring because basically all teams that don't actively tank make it to the playoffs etc

If you're used to what you're watching now, the NBA is basically unwatchable all year until round about May.
That's what happened to me. Before May I only tune in randomly just to see an interesting rookie like Wemby, the rest I just can't stand it. I used to find the regular season interesting up to maybe a couple decades ago, but it seems the intensity has gone downhill badly since then.

I saw his comment as the exact opposite. Serbia is going to smoke you, especially if Jimmer is your best player. I could be wrong though and maybe he meant it like you said

The ignorance of your posts is astounding.

It’s essentially a different sport and if you think some old washed up players would be able to come in and win, then you need a reality check.

Wow I'm just now watching the end of France-Japan. Not sure about the foul call but that was an incredible shot to send it to OT. France looked done, down 4 with 10 seconds left, but wins in OT.

The USA women's 3x3 team is pro WNBA players and they lost their first game today too, to Germany.

Wade's awful color commentary reminds me of when they put Magic Johnson on Finals commentary(also NBC). Stop putting people in the booth just cause they're stars or recognizable names. It really seems like the TV networks have all universally lowered their standards for commentary when before it at least appeared like there was an audition process

If the Germany team is a dedicated 3X3 team then that makes all the difference in that sport
It requires a different type of teamwork, you can't expect to blitz it based on skill alone

Facts. Even if the NBA sent their guys to the 3x3 comp, they'd have to choose wisely. Of course, LBJ, KD, AD, and Ant would destroy the comp, but if they send random dudes, they have to know what they're doing.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

My point was that I am not surprised in the slightest that Serbia smoked Team USA when Jimmer Fredette is your best player. But you'd think that Team USA should be able to field a decent 3x3 team. As was pointed out earlier, apparently for some reason NBA players aren't allowed despite being allowed in 5x5. But even then, you have college players and retired veterans that are better than the roster we are fielding. And I have no doubt that, even at their age, an Anthony/Cousins/Thomas team would beat Serbia. And I would tune in for that. But I am not tuning in for Jimmer Fredette air balling 3s against g-league players. And Melo getting another medal would be cool.

The summer Olympics have gotten much better with their event selection. Still missing 'Merican football and MMA. But then they go "No! The world doesn't want to see McCollum ally-ooping to DeRozan. They want to see Fredette dribbling the ball off his foot!" And that's just a waste of talent.

I've literally read people commenting on how great and refreshing Wade is at being an analyst.

It's really not. The idea that some of the best basketball players in the world never played pick up 3x3 is more ignorant than the idea that Melo, who developed a deep shot, couldn't spread a defense. Or that Cousins couldn't handle the boards against 6'3" players. Sure, there are some rule changes. But you're honestly picking this team to beat them:

Yeah he’s been a good listen so far. I thought he was awful from his TNT appearances, but he was good! Minus some repetitive one liners.
