Re: OT: Olympic Games Basketball
Obviously not original, but the Teague comment was a pretty big meme after winning the finals. I think most who follow the nba and use the internet would have been familiar with it.

Expecting anyone to recall something Jeff Teague has ever once said or did is a leap.
Jeff Teague is actually very popular among the NBA podcast world. I guarantee you Hali has seen all of the stories he tells on these podcasts
Well there's the difference. I don't listen to the NBA podcast world because I don't give a **** about podcasts.

As much as it's fun to dunk on Tatum and Hali, Lebron and the old guard (Curry, KD) glory merchant-ing their way to gold while telling the younger stars to plant their ass on the bench has a very off-putting *President putting medal around own neck meme* energy to it.
This just sounds like the default "I don't like Lebron" argument. Watching the games it was very obvious that those 3 were our best players and we needed them to win. It was cool seeing 3 of the GOATs playing together and carrying. Booker was able to find minutes because he understood his role, needed more guys like that. Too much diminishing returns on these allstar team USA squads.
Was it obvious or was this simply how the circumstances (i.e. minutes distribution) reflected what I'm talking about? Like yeah, Devin Booker "understood his role". His role being, "this is the KD/Lebron/Curry legacy gold medal, so take a back seat kid". The '92 Dream Team had two guys over the age of 32. The 2008 Redeem Team had one guy over the age of 30 (Jason Kidd). I personally don't care for this recent trend of USA basketball. Let the young players have their moment.
They would not have won with those other guys playing. That's the key part.
The way Serbia played in the semifinal, Lebron and co would've "let Tatum have his moment" with a bronze medal on the podium.
Every post on Twitter after the Serbia game was going off on Kerr for playing any lineup other than their best 5 because they thought it almost cost them the game to take the starters off the floor.
A lot can change in 4 years and maybe Curry is still effective or something, but while the US will still be slightly favored, if there isn't an ascension for Edwards or something, they may barely be favored to take gold. About all we have going for us is whichever country has a star (France, for example) is simply smaller and has less of a pool for depth. The US has depth of great players, but it played like **** in 2024.

These Olympics cemented my belief that Joel Embiid is the most annoying person in basketball. Just ... all of it.

I think the US should only send dudes in college or on their rookie deals.

Re: OT: Olympic Games Basketball
Other countries will send their best, like Giannis, & not get them rest. Then they'll be equipped to beat the US. We've seen it already. And they've done it against disproportionately young teams, like in '04-'06. So hello, you play to win the (Olympic) games.

I'd be cool with seeing a couple 40+ ATGs getting crunch minutes in the '28 gold medal game.
