I know 3rd year guys rarely play SL but I think he could have benefited from some burn there this year. Oh well, he probably bounces out of the league after his rookie deal. Maybe like once out of three development worlds he turns into a decent run and gun type 3rd guard but right now he doesn't have the gun, just the run.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

For a FO known for making bad decision over the last two years, it's easy to side against them and to root for Dalen.

The standard is that players only do summer league their first two off-seasons, this is Dalen's 3rd.

As for Dalen's quality, we aren't trying to convict him of murder and require 100% certainty. You are trying to evaluate whether in a year he's worth his salary in the final year of the deal or the RFA rights are valuable to you.

But why would the Bulls FO choose the standard? That's part of the problem, brother. The standard leaves us confused about where Dalen Terry is in his development. Going with business as usual in that type of circumstance is not the right move!

I fully agree!

Terry, Phillips and Matas all need to "headline" the summer league team. Terry hasn't proven he is even worth a roster spot yet if were being honest so yes he should be out there in summer league working and "fighting for his life" and a contract after that rookie deal is done. I'm seeing Terry go the way of Hutchinson and Snell, barely playing post their post-4 year Bull career and fizzling out into nothingness. This will be the season to find out how bad AKME botched that pick as well. Their track record is flawless so far.....

In all fairness, we drafted Dalen in the mid first round. The bust rate on those types of picks is high. A more fair criticism of AKME botching the pick might be their gameplan for developing him. I don't know how guys could develop riding so much pine in their second year. The G-league comes across as the superior alternative.

And to make matters worse, he was a mid-first round pick was projected as a second-round pick and seen as a big swing.

Because Summer League is an absolute horror show of a development platform in terms of competition/learning and is primarily used to introduce players to the system, coaching staff, and team, not to develop players or see how they look against competition.

You can probably learn more in a couple practices with the team than 2 weeks of summer league about where a guy fits into the NBA. This is an opportunity for coaches to work with players at a time when they aren't normally allowed to work with them. You can also have no more than four players on your NBA roster attend summer league.

This is also why frequently if a player looks good in summer league they send the player home after two games to ensure they don't get hurt going against scrubs that are trying to make a name for themselves.

I believe it is the case (though not certain) that a team cannot force a player to go to summer league after two years, and after that point it is the player's choice whether to attend.

Side note - despite looking pretty darn good last game, the Heat released guard Alondes Williams…

That does bring us back to the opportunity cost of keeping a guy like Terry, or Bitim, or Jevon Carter. In particular, would love to dump Carter for another spot on the roster to shuffle through developmental talents and see who the coaches think has “it.”

Also, I think the NBA should consider basically having 2 annual G-league seasons. One short one that maybe even starts during the NBA playoffs (in April) and goes through August or September, and then the other one. Make it really more of a minor league, development program, where excelling in that league really might give you a shot at making an nba roster.

They have summer league and the regular season, so it's kind of a mini season, then a season, so I doubt they'd run two full seasons + summer league now. So I think it will continue to grow , they actually finally have a team for every franchise so it should start to expand into a true-ish minor league over time. It's been a process.

I was rooting for Bitim, but since he's not guaranteed, I think he may be the odd man out. If we do open a slot, another C that we can use as Vuc insurance would be good. I'm rooting for Achuiwa, who might be gettable with our remaining space.

Cut Funk and have Williams take his place as one of the two-ways.

I will say this about Terry - I think he's currently a top 3 perimeter defender on the team with Patrick and Ayo. If either of them can't be in the game, Dalen could be used situationally this season, even if we don't pick up his fourth year option.

If I felt I needed to see Dalen Terry for a third year of summer league in order to not be “confused about where he is in his development” then I would know exactly where he is in his development.

If you put me on a relay with Usain Bolt, Tyreek Hill and JD Pritzker, I would be the third fastest member of the team.

TOTAL INCOMPETENCE.

AK is such a joke.

Dalen sucks. All the newest videos show his shot hasn't changed. Still dips it low and can't shoot or score.

AK believes he's a genius, so Terry must be a future star. Wait til the 5 year contract next, player option.

He's not good, but his value may be as a filler in a trade.
