Does anyone here think that this move was precipitated by Mitch’s injury or was always in the cards?

Always in the cards... I'm guessing negotiation stalled. He had a player option and there was no way he was going to tap into that. He probably felt that he took 2 discounted contracts and shouldn't have to do the same. No way Knicks were walking away for getting nothing. Midseason trades rarely works out because you need the time to get acclimated. Time is now for the Knicks.

Minny was always going to trade KAT.. it was going to be before media day. No way the owners wanted to pay that crazy luxury tax. It's their fault that they traded for Gobert's max contract. You never pay DPOY with limited offense max contracts (Simmons, Gobert).

So CP from Knicks FanTV over the summer had said that he heard Julius not signing his extension was a precursor to the team still being interested in trading for Towns, but I don’t think anyone took the report serious at the time, so it seems this may have been in the works for some time

Clear as day to me.

Things got weird with the Captain press conference and the fact Randle never extended in the summer when.

He still thought he was either top dog or co-top dog.

He’s at best a 3rd option, easy solution, ship him out.

No one is gonna miss him standing at the 3 point line pouting because he isn’t getting the ball then walking back on defense. No one is gonna miss his awful dribble isolation sets where he shoots a terrible contested step back.

So that means both Donte AND Hart are gone from the bench.

I think this is a trade where the Knicks actually got worse.

It’s a pretty good trade on its face. Not gonna have much roster flexibility — but what else do we need? The team is stacked. Sad to see Divo go, but they sold high on him.

Randle was never going to harmoniously give up touches in his contract year if he felt he wasn't going to stay with the Knicks. it would've been a bad vibes situation
