I really don't know but I also think people usually have one line of thinking for a player and can not view them any other way.
For example last year many people in this thread kept saying Miller wasn't a starter and expected him to log a lot of minutes in Greensboro.

Or that Scoot Henderson was ready made to start right away and be a ROY contender.

I really think 30 games into the season Salaun might look like a completely different player then what many are painting him out to be for the next 3 years.

Years til he is a rotation player? Yikes. I think he gets into the rotation before the end of this year. He probably won't start until Miles moves on in couple years (and if he develops well).

he'll get chances, but it will be due to injuries. to get in the rotation he'd have to beat out at least one of - grant, cody, green, mann. i cant see that happening in the next 2 years.

but, when cody inevitably goes down, he'll get a shot for some sf mins behind miller/green

i just have little faith in forwards who come in the league and cant - dribble, pass, create. expecting guys to develop those skills to an nba starter level after age 18 is a big jump to ask. its so rare to see. he'll need to be a legit 3pt threat and/or a plus defender and/or top tier energy garbage guy aka cedric Ceballos/gerald wallace, mixed with some jaylen brown and an ounce of giannis. he's a role player architype, otherwise. that can still be a really valuable player given his size and motor and early signs of an avg 3pt shooter, but it's gonna take time.

he's not a guy to judge until year 3 at earliest. i'm gonna be patient. i still feel much better about him then i did vonleh, kai, thor, bouk, frank, at this stage.

I'm going to continue saying this until I speak it into existence. I think he needs to be looked at in the hybrid 4-5 Al Horford role long term instead of a big wing. He's going to fill out and be a big boy

for sure his position will eventually be pf. if he could be a stretch 5 eventually, well, that changes everything in terms of his value.

yeah I'm hoping for a Jermaine O'Neal style progression for him. Slowly develops into a serviceable big.

Salaun is 19 years old and has never worked with an NBA development staff. We have no idea what he can be.

Weird to act like we know how good he can be or what his role needs to be.

I keep overlooking Grant being the main PF back up/occasional starter. TJ may not find many minutes. Hopefully he gets decent run in some games.

I was impressed with Salaun tonight. I don't know how you couldn't be. Not every game will be that good, but that was a nice start.

There are not make kids that just turned 19 with that body that can shoot. I'd prefer him to spend the season in the g league personally and get all the burn he can get.

Awesome shot by Melo but like how Tidjane did his part here. Pass was a bit sloppy but still did it on the move left-handed then set the screen. If he can do this reliably like Marv used to...

Lol I remember people were saying he won't see the court for 3 years.

This kid is gonna make an impact in his rookie season. Loving this pick more and more. Hell just start him from the jump I want this kid on the court with Melo finding him in transition and for the open 3.

He has like negative dribble game, but he knows where he's supposed to be on the floor and I actually am encouraged by his BBIQ when it comes to spacing and defensive rotation. I'm excited about this guy.

I was hopeful before, now I am pretty confident- he may already be a rotation player. Obviously has some work to do with the handles and rotations but he has a nice J, NBA ready muscles and a good attitude. That should get him some run sooner than later.
