Draft players for the upcoming season. 12 men rosters and during allstar break or maybe in the end of the season we could dump guys that got injured or sucked and draft other players instead

then have playoffs after the season and choose 8 players to represent our teams

Roddy you're the only one who always remembers this game.

We'll have to hustle to make it in time for the season. I don't know if 12 man rosters are feasible at this late stage though.
Just go with eight.

Yeah I believe we normally just allow additional players to be drafted midseason. I'll have to look back at the last time we did it.

People tended to lose interest. I think we would have to take out the mid-season waiver process. The final judging should probably be rankings at the end of the season.

Looking back, we did 10 players rather than 12, and selected eight of those for ranking purposes. I think we need the buffer or teams with a couple of injured players will be completely out of the running.

What about a least successfull franchises draft.
Bottom 10 teams (assuming 10 drafters) for all time playoff appearances. Any year is available to draft on, no restrictions. If a player played for the bad franchise, they can be drafted in the season they played for said franchise.

Least playoff appearances in order from worst to 10th worst

1. Timberwolves
2. Clippers
3. Pelicans
4. Grizzlies
5. Raptors
6. Magic
7. Thunder
8. Kings
9. Hornets
10. Blazers

Should be an interesting pool with some lesser chosen players.

Cities draft. Similar to the college draft. 4 rounds, each round you draft any city on earth. You assemble your team from players born in those cities (according to basketball-reference).

Maybe 1 MVP per city, otherwise a certain city is wildly unfair (and not one of the ones you might first think).

I want to try the "Choose Your Eras" Draft again, where each person contributes two franchise decades to the pool, but this time with a couple of twists:

1) No franchises may be selected that have Multiple finals appearances in that decade- a variation of the no-rings stipulation we had before.
2) The team selected must have at least ONE All-NBA selection during that decade- this is designed to avoid total troll-picks like the 2020s Pistons or 90s Clippers, while still giving enough freedom for unconventional choices to be made. This one may need workshopping.
3) All selections are made by private PM, and are not made public until draft the order is set and the draft starts. I cannot veto any selections made UNLESS they were already made by another person who signed up, or if they violate rules 1 or 2. So nobody can be pressured into changing their picks.

Someone suggested that third choice and it's been rattling in my brain ever since. It could be a total hot mess. Or it could be cool.

Thoughts?

Interesting. Regarding point 2, a selection like Pelicans 20s can be as valid as Kings 20s, so there's that. Maybe also allow two different All Stars as an alternative option to at least one All NBA.

I'm a bit worried about point 3. Personally I'd be tempted to try unconventional picks like Pacers 20s, but if everyone does that, we might end up with a non workable pool. Maybe we should force one of those picks by everyone to be somehow stronger.

Yeah. I kind of like the uncertainty as a change of pace. I don’t mind unconventional picks, I just mind totally non-productive picks like 2020s Pistons or 90s Wizards. I’m open to changing the failsafe on that.

I wouldn’t mind it if everyone picked teams like the 2020s Pacers. We could work with that.

What if they had to have at least X number of winning seasons?

Just spit balling here.

Celtics championship years: (1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024)

2024+2008 ensure we have enough top end talent, but we also have some top end 70s and 80s guys, plus peak years for Russell, Wilt, Oscar, West.

MJ is not included as he was injured in 1986.

Way too much 50s and 60s for me.

Not sure how much they'll be used given the depth from other decades, but I actually suspect the overall depth is too much even without the 50s and 60s, upon further research

I wouldn’t have any interest in a game revolving around the rings for one particular franchise. Particularly not the Celtics. Too many old school years even ignoring the 50s and 60s it’s mostly 70s and 80s.

If you believe we'd be fine with only teams like Pacers, 20s, then maybe we don't need any more adjustments. I hope you are right but I'm a bit sceptical.

I totally get it. But I also think we’ll have people who choose deep teams. Having two for every person is something of a fail safe in and of itself.

It might not work but I’d like to try.

If nobody likes this idea it’ll die a natural death.

I'm thinking of making the criteria at least one playoff series win in the decade.

Current pitch:

A new version of the "choose your draft pool" twist, with 3 key modifications:

1) No teams with multiple championships in a given decade. Teams like the 2010 Mavs can be selected since they only have one ring. Teams like the 2010s Warriors are inelgiable. All teams with no rings in a given decade are available.
2) No teams without at least one playoff series win in a given decade- this way everyone must at least pick teams that have some productive and usable players, but still allows for unconventional selections.
3) Must be privately sent. You can't see what others have chosen. This both eliminates the pressure to pick certain teams and also prevents people from deliberately choosing teams that overlap in available players with other selections.

I can only ask for a new team to be selected if the team selected violates the rules outlined or a repeat is selected. I will choose my own two teams after seeing what everyone else has selected.

Okay. I’d like to try this one once the Non-peak game is a wrap and the current draft is into the playoffs. No idea who else likes it but if it sinks another idea will take its place.

How about a slotted draft?

0-3 FGA's
3-6 FGA's
6-8 FGA's
8-10 FGA's
10-15 FGA's
15-18 FGA's
18-20 FGA's
20-plus FGA's

8 players

we could the plus or minus, something like this
we could set some kind of time frame
etc.

I think we've done it, but I like it. Would we draft in that order?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
