I expect Queta to come on in minutes, relative to the other backup bigs, through the season.

Lobs aside, I wonder if Queta will always be a weak finisher. He seems to have little touch.

Sure. But he is a better finisher than Kornet
And a better rim protector and rebounder
Kornet is funnier though. And he knows the drills
Sometimes you need a fighter in the paint (IND and DET stroll to the paint games come to mind) where Queta is better suited IMO
Glad we have all of our bigs for the added versatility
And please stop using the double big lineup, unless Al is one of them

Agree, until Porzingis returns. IMO Horford should continue to start, but, should be the 1st to sub out and bring in either Kornet or Queta to play single big with at least 3/5 of the starters on 1st substitution.

Kornet's a better defender by a pretty wide margin. Queta is regularly clueless out there. Is he better this year? We'll see. But it's not been close until now.
Also not sure what you're using to determine that Queta is a better finisher than Kornet. Luke is better by the numbers.

Re: The big man rotation
I'm very curious to see how we play this Back-to-Back? -- Usually Horford sits one night.
I can see Kornet Starting the 2nd night. But then, if Horford doesn't play at all, how to we play the Big Men after Kornet?

Tillman is awful. Undersized, slow, can't jump and a zero on offense. Queta makes an impact almost every times he's on the floor. He's raw but let him learn and make mistakes. Love his rim protection and energy. Has a great knack for the ball too.

Gant wrote:With Porzingis sidelined and Horford advanced in wisdom, the big man rotation is taking shape.
* Kornet is the #3 center. He's first off the bench and plays a seamless traditional role. Early in the season, when he's on the court the team has done very well extending leads.
* Tillman is next in the pecking order. But when he plays, it's almost always paired with another large person, making you think that Xavier Tillman is a (gasp) power forward.
* Queta is #5 in the rotation. Of note it does appear he IS just about in the rotation, a least more than Oshae Brissett was last year. When Hauser sat last night, it wasn't Walsh or Springer that filled those minutes, it was Queta. Effectively too.
Here's the current state of bigness: Porzingis is out. Horford is limited in playing time. Kornet plays next and fills in more than adequately. Queta spells both H and K, and gives the team a whole different feel. Tillman plays alongside any of the others.
The Celtics are so deep at center that they are capable of beating anyone playing their 3-5 big men. They're in great shape until Porzingis returns.
Hey Gant, can we add a Poll?
Something like: Which Big should get minutes in Porzingis absence?

They all have skills and all have shortcomings. They all should get minutes.
Kornet, Tillman and Queta are like three different tools in the toolbox. Mazzulla can choose the one that best suits each job.

I said sometimes Queta is better suited - like the last game in IND.
Most of the time Queta plays with the bench in garbage time while Kornet plays with the starters so the stats are misleading. Both have issues finishing near the basket, missing bunnies or getting stripped.
Queta has issues guarding smaller quicker players but he can close the paint better than Kornet.
Just glad we have the versatility and hoping Joe will use it to its fullest.

Re: The big man rotation
I see Queta as our most promising Backup Center. Tillman is a better PF, that can switch off on most players.
We're lucky to have the 5 Bigs. This year the Depth Chart is shaping up to be the following.:
Porzingis
Horford
Queta
Kornet
Tillman

Keep feeding spoon feeding minutes to Queta. He's raw but he will improve. Could pay off big in the POs. They have got cut Al's minutes to around 20

Not happening.
Al's still very good right now.
His shooting will be a big plus for the offense.

Luckily, Horford can play PF, and plays well with all our other Bigs. I doubt that Porzingis and Queta can Start, together.
So, let Horford come in off the Bench in the Playoffs.
Hopefully, we'll have Porzingis, too.

Re: The big man rotation
Tillman 0:14 seconds against the Bucks
Weird
I want to see what he can do as a lone big cause in the double big lineup he is miserable

No more rotation needed. Give Queta KP’s minutes till zinger comes back. Luke plays in case of foul trouble or when Horford rests

Agreed. I think games played is more important for Al rather than a complete cut in minutes. When KP comes back Al should definitely get a good chunk of games off. Ease Al back in during the big games and keep him fresh for the May and June run.

Re: The big man rotation
What will Al do when KP comes back?? easy .. come off the bench. So why not just give Al the role he will have anyway and start Queta?? It seems like a win win for me.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

I want to see another blowout game so they can get him in late and more involved in the offense for a stretch to get his confidence back.
