Least Playoff Appearances Franchises Draft - R1 - Snakebites* vs MadNess

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed Nov 6, 2024 6:40 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Write Up:
GL Snake.

Defense:
Straight Up: Penny on Cassell, Green on Eddie, Tmac on Butler, AD on Brand, Bosh on Marc. Overall we think our team defense led by our anchor in AD is really good. Green is my POA defender. We feel overall, we have really good defensive bigs, who can interchange and defend any 4/5 combo in the draft. We also feel that with our length, we should be able to slow teams down.

Offense: With Penny/TMac/AD we think we have the best trio of unique offense in this draft. There won't be many teams who can defend use especially with Bosh and Green as our 4th and 5th options. We can move the ball around, shooters everywhere, we can iso when needed, pick and rolls and pick and pops on either side with either combo (TMac/AD, Tmac/Bosh, Penny/AD or Penny/Bosh). Green is an elite wide open shooter and he should get plenty of wide open looks with this group. Virtually we can do anything offensively. We can run as well.

I don't think Snake has the star power to run with us. His team is good and balanced no doubt, but where does he go in crunch time when he needs a bucket? I have 3 of those guys.

PG: Sam Cassell 2004- 15.7 FGA - Minnesota Timberwolves
All NBA Second
20/7/1, 4.6 VORP, 46/40/87 (2.3 3pt att)

SG: Eddie Jones 2002- 14.8 FGA- Miami Heat
18/5/1, 4.6 VORP, 43/39/84 (4.7 3 pt att)

SF: Jimmy Butler 2023- 13.9 FGA- Miami Heat
All NBA Second
23/6/5, 5.8 VORP, 54/35/85 (1.6 3pt Att)

PF: Elton Brant 2006- 18.2 FGA- Los Angeles Clippers
All NBA Second
25/10/2, 6.8 VORP, 58% TS

C: Marc Gasol 2019- 11.0 FGA- Memphis Grizzlies
14/8/4, 45/36/76, 3.5 3pt Att

Bench:

Patrick Beverley 20-21 5.9 FGA- Los Angeles Clippers

Mike Miller 11-12 5.4 FGA- Miami Heat
6/3/1, 43/45/40, (3.0 3pt Att), 56% TS

Joel Anthony 11-12 3.0 FGA- Miami Heat
3/4/1

Rotation:

Cassell (38)/Beverley (10)
Jones (38)/Beverley (10)
Butler (28)/Miller (20)
Brand (38)/Butler (10)
Gasol (35)/Anthony (13)

Alrighty. All cards on the table- talent-wise I'm definitely an underdog here. I do think there's aspects of the matchup that favors me. Both Butler and EJ are bigger wing defenders who can guard Penny and TMAC respectively, and I've got enough size up front to bang with Bosh and AD and give plenty back on the other end. Ness's perimeter defense is relatively weak, and I've got a solid amount of firepower on my perimeter as well. Butler has the best playoff resume as a lead offensive weapon in this series, as TMAC and this version of AD both have checkered playoff histories at this stage in their career, and my roster is still more balanced and superior defensively.

Put simply, that Ness starting five is too much of a juggernaut for Snake to overcome here. Ness has both the talent and fit advantage for me. I have some questions about the bench, but Snake's isn't much better.

I really like what Snake did in terms of fit with the Cassell/Clippers core and I think Gasol spacing the floor is great fit on this team, enough to make up for powerful big 3 talent on MadNESS. I'll go with the bench as the difference as that's too much Evans for me and TWolves Prince is washed. Vote Snakebites.

Wolves Prince is a very meaningful downgrade, he may provide value on defense but has zero offensive value, with around 45% TS and no shooting. The same goes for LMAM and Evans in terms of offensive contribution. MadNess is playing 3 on 5 for many minutes, and that seems meaningful to me.

Snake has a relatively weak bench as well but at least Bev and Miller can shoot.

Snake has less top end talent but still a starting five of all All Star quality.

Pretty much ditto everything that durantbird said - Yes Ness has an incredible core, but that bench is abysmal. Having one of that level of player is fine, but three is too much. And I don't love the offensive fit of Ness's group, while Snake's makes a lot more sense to me.

Rare instance where I’m surprised I won. I thought Ness had the most talented team in this.
