Yanks talking to the Bucs
http://buccoblog.mlblogs.com/
Don't know what it is worth but I have seen other blogs about it as well.
Damaso Marte, with the talks expanding to include perhaps Bay and Snell.
The Bucs are pretty random and tough to deal with. They have apparently demanded Tabata for Marte, which is ridiculous but because of their randomness and financial issues, they may well give up Bay who struggled last season and makes up 1/7th of their payroll. Another left reliever Grabow was mentioned and he is arbitration eligible.
It also mentions Ian Snell but that must be in attempt to get one of the 3 starters which I would hope is a non starter.
Edit: this is probably sticky thread material my bad.

Interesting. I like the idea depending on who we have to give up. A healthy Bay balances out the L/R in the lineup but then we would have too many OFers. Unless Melky was part of the deal and then Damon would move back to CF. Matsui to DH and Bay in LF.
It's also interesting that the Pirates just released Jose Castillo, their starting 2nd baseman. I wonder if they were just clearing a roster spot for the rule V draft or if there is a serious deal brewing. Perhaps Betemit is part of it too? -Jitpal

I was thinking along these lines:
Tabata/Duncan (just a name and obviously this package is a little short)
for
Marte/Bay
Freeing up the Yanks to send Matsui, who may not be all that excited about being a DH, to the Giants in a package for some of their young pitching. We may also be able to convince the Giants to take the Giambino (and a truck load of cash) as well.
I am no expert on the Giants and what their plan is but their outfield and firstbase situation may struggle to combine for 20 HRs. Add those two bats to their pitching and they could win that incredibly weakass division.

Lowry had 87 walks and 87 strikeouts in 156 innings last year. That ERA of his was astronomically lucky. And he was having arm soreness issues through a good part of last season.
Not that Bay was any more impressive last year. But i'd still take a flyer on him if the Pirates are actually selling low.

We should have never traded Marte in the first place

How? He's on our team right now, look at Wilson Betemit...he's a juiced up version of Enrique.
