Vučević discussion thread. I don't want to but what the heck.

Post#1 » by sco » Mon Nov 18, 2024 6:31 pm

So I give credit where credit is due. So far this season (subject to an immediate reversal as soon as I post this) he is having an objectively great year (offensively anyways):

Among C's per ESPN Vuc is:
4th in PPG at 20.1
7th in FG% at 59.3
7th in 3 pointers per game at 1.8, shooting 44.6%
4th in FT% at 87%

His blocks and steals are both toward the bottom at .7 and .6, respectively

Sure I want him traded, but I wanted to hand out some respect on his season so far.

Yeah, he's been legitimately great so far this season and I've enjoyed watching him. On offense.

But we knew what he was on defense, so what we're getting from him is basically a best case scenario.

Kudos to him and I hope he keeps it up.

There are several centers that I would rather have but that's mainly that Vucevic is paid too much for a one dimensional (offensive) game and at his age he's not going to be part of the future even next year's future. They've got to move on from him someday so do it now

Don't bother telling me none of these guys aren't any good, Mr. Perfect Center isn't available. I'd rather have Ayton, Mo Bamba, Jared Allen, Clint Capela, or a few others even if it meant having a 3 headed monster by committee that included Jalen Smith. I don't need the big man to dominate the lane, just a more mobile guy for all the switches the Bulls do.

But the reality is they either get a starter or at least a 24 minute backup for Smith, people who propose trades where the Bulls don't get a center from somewhere are being childish, an imaginary backup 5 isn't around.

I thought we weren't talking about it because we didn't want to jynx it before the trade deadline

Vuc has been really good on offense, and he's shooting well enough now that he's starting to draw gravity at the three point line which does open things up more. On top of that, I was scared he'd be a bit of an anchor in our new high pace offense, but instead, he seems to have no problem keeping up and still doing really well in it.

He's still a disaster on defense, but he was a disaster on both ends last year, so this is a huge improvement overall.

Given his age and that he's on pace for maybe his 2nd best season ever (depending how you measure, as its subjective), I expect some regression to the mean, but I hope his performance remains good enough that we're able to get off his deal at the deadline. If he is playing even close to this at the deadline, I think there will be takers, and we might even get some value back.

some did. Actually quite a few league reporters did. However they openly admit he was like extremely poorly for his standards. If we had this version last season we are a playoff team.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Yep, Vucevic has been good offensively, but it really hasn't translated to the win column (which I'm personally fine with).

Playing with an actual PG has probably helped his numbers a bit too.

Offensively? Great.

Defensively? The worst thing I have ever seen.

If the Bulls had a legit power foward who could play help-side defense and act occasionally as a rim protector, he'd be great for a competing roster. But this roster construction is not made for competing, so I'm not sure what the plan here is. But Vucevic has been great thus far and has been one of the few bright spots this season.

You mean like an Anthony Davis?

Obviously the exception is the Lakers aren't contenders despite trying.

Yep, right now, if the front office doesn't trade him given they are being gifted with a solid season by Vuc, would be absolute incompetence.
Why so serious?

Davis would be one guy who comes to mind, sure. Obviously, we don't have anything close to him on our roster. But it doesn't even need to be an offensively gifted 4, just a guy who can help at the rim on the defensive end.

Actually, a guy who would make sense but is likely not available and probably wouldn’t want to come back here is a guy like Bobby Portis. He’d be a great fit next to Vuc.

I meant send Vucevic to the Lakers.

If we are tearing it down (we should) then that should be an option depending on what return we could get.

He’s amazing tonight too vs Detroit

I don’t see how we don’t land a 1st with this type of output

Giddey is bad defensively but when you allow 80 points in the paint in one game there's nobody worse.

Way better offensively than I thought he'd be.

Props to him to be fair.
