Since the win over Bayern, Villa has not looked good. Meanwhile, Newcastle, with no European matches, simply hasn't been consistent enough.

Ramsey and Onana took knocks this game against Bayern, I think their league form will hinder for as long as they're in both competitions. They ran their socks off like it was a final.
S/O to Emery though. Gerrard tried to warp people’s minds about the quality of his players (re: Pochettino).

Meanwhile, Spurs play a pretty lacklustre game at home to Fulham, new look United thump Everton, and Chelsea take an impressive 3-0 win over Villa. I have to say, the new managers are generally looking good this season. Slot and Maresca in particular have really impressed me. Slot has given Liverpool some much needed structural defensive solidity, and Maresca has turned Chelsea's hodgepodge of talented but disparate players into a pretty coherent and fluid team that's fun to watch.

Newcastle are a victim of Dan Ashworth and Paul Mitchell's clown show squad building. That midfield three is a horror of imbalance.
Longstaff has no right to be starting week in and week out. Joelinton playing on the wing etc.
They need a creative attacking midfielder, a winger upgrade on Barnes + Almiron (dross) and their CBs are very mediocre. They went on a wild goosechase for Guehi last summer and their efforts were ultimately futile.
Pope has also hit the wall.
Love their fullbacks to death, especially Lewis Hall - potential to be one of the best in the world. Isak & Anthony Gordon are serious quality as well. Guimaraes and Tonali are alright. The rest of it is worth where they are in the table.
Villa on the other hand have a squad I love, they're just coping with the rigors of CL football, I said this a while ago in the CL threadstormi wrote:Duran is so special. Pains me every time I get to see him play knowing we had him in our palms.

I think it was when they played Bayern, it was very evident then that the hard yards would catch up with them.
Everyone is focused on Liverpool City on the weekend, Villa Chelsea is the actual marquee fixture with massive top four implications in the cards.

Villa are completely worn down at the moment and most of the squad are really struggling to find form and energy, which we knew would likely be an issue this season with CL football.
Unfortunately, we've had 2-3 players from the start of the season with niggling injuries that they've played through for the most part, but are completely out of form because of that (especially Bailey). And the toll on the rest of the regular starters is not taking hold over the last 3-4 weeks.
Full belief in the manager and the club, as the vast majority of the supporters do, but there's always the social media whingers demanding Emery out, because we've had a rough 4-5 weeks - absolute clowns.
We are not where we want to be, but still only 4 points away from Top 4 and also still in a great spot on CL table. Tough run ahead, but 2 home games to try and get back on track.

Saw some Villa fans unhappy with Rogers form, that makes me a bit sad because he was so dynamic to start the season. Performances against Bayern and Arsenal were two of the best of any player in the division. Rice and Partey couldn't get near him.
Philogene didn't look ready for the moment.
Onana is also a massive missing presence both in the middle of the park, winning 50/50 balls and on set pieces.
Was far too easy for Caicedo and Lavia to overrun Kamara and Tielemans.
Table is extremely tight so Villa aren't out of the race or anything, but a serious injury to Dibu and I might alter my tone. Robin Olsen is a liability.
I didnt think Arsenal played that well. If United were a little more aggressive. We may have seen a different result. Man those corners.....The_Brecht wrote:This was complete domination. If we were a little more clinical, it could've been a lot more.
Man Utd looked like they never thought they had a chance.
