PSU/Ducks is like the exact opposite of UGA/UT.

I hate Clemson but now Alabama likely bumped out. I hope.

What a dang kick

SMU should absolutely be in the playoffs over Bama

Where I fall is SMU should be in over Bama. That said we're talking about the 12th and 13th teams in this bracket and whoever gets left out has nobody to blame but themselves. 5 teams earned their spot(Oregon, Georgia, Arizona St, Boise St, Clemson) anyone else left out should have won their conference.

I think the 12 team CFP has been a huge success for the sport. It made so many more games relevant down the stretch and every team that has a legitimate claim to being the best team in the country will get a chance to play for the title

I really don't care who's in so long as Miami is out.

You can't punish SMU for losing a championship game that Alabama didn't even have to play. Clemson is a bid-stealer in the same fashion we have bid-stealers in the NCAA tournament every year. That's a side effect of the new CFP.

Also, the match-ups and seeding are kind of a joke. When some random 4-loss ACC champion falls ass-backwards into a title game because of a bye and quirks of the seeding path and then defeats a superior team because of fluke plays and injuries and bad officiating, we're going to be stuck calling them a national champion despite knowing they would have lost 7 games if they played in the SEC. Drama, entertainment, potential David vs. Goliath upsets for excitement, sure whatever, but I personally just kind of roll my eyes. I can understand wanting to give more teams a chance, but not if it just feels like charity.

Sure maybe some team will "luck" into a championship. But they'd still have to win 3 or 4 games against good teams to do it. It would be great to have a non blue blood win once in awhile.

Idk. Nobody seems to complain when a non 1 or 2 seed wins the NCAA Tourney, when a wildcard team wins the Superbowl, or when a 87 or 88 win teams wins the World Series. If somehow a 10, 11, or 12 seed does make a run in the CFP they'll be talked about as a Cinderella champion but I don't think anyone will call them undeserved

I guess this is partly an agree-to-disagree thing because I'd much rather level the playing field with financial regulations than just let inferior teams get lucky. Also, flukes can work both ways. You can have a non-helmet school with a great team and still have a fluke loss to a helmet school. Look at how often the Brewers have been screwed by the new first-round format for an analogy. It's fun for fans of the wild-card team, but what if you actually have arguably the smartest regime in the sport and are actually a favorite despite the inherent disadvantages? That's just doubly painful.

More importantly, a fluke champion doesn't actually have to beat many great teams, if any. You could have multiple mediocre conference champions that defeat some other borderline top-20 team in their title game for their toughest game all year, and at least one of them gets a bye. Then they draw two of the Indiana/Boise State/BYU/SMU/South Carolina types (not saying all of them made the CFP this year, but they're all close) so they essentially only need to beat one really good team. And that's not even a far-fetched scenario either, as we already have a very real possibility of it playing out similarly in the very first year of the new format.

I would continue to give automatic bids to conference champions but not guarantee them a bye.

They need to figure out some kind of schedule leveling. The disparity of who teams schedule for non conference has always been and issue but is really highlighted in this 12 team format and to make it worse now the conferences are so big even the conference schedules are unbalanced.

Penn State and Indiana didn't play each other. Their only regular season loss was to Ohio State. What tie breaker was used to put Penn State in the championship game?

Feels like a great opportunity to introduce soccer style relegation to American sports.

Split division 1 football into two tiers. Have like the top 60 or so in the championships tier and the rest in a 2nd division. Relegate the worst 6-8 teams out every season and have that second tier play big bowl games to move up. Only allow championship tier teams to play 1-2 games against non champion tier opponents (still let's you play some long time rivals who get relegated).

Penn St's conference opponents had a higher winning % than Indiana's did.

Not a Alabama hater , but it seems the narrative is to get them in to the playoffs and it's totally crap ! They have 3 losses , you just can't put them over SMU , a two loss team that barely lost in the conference Championship , which supposedly doesn't matter ! If this happens then lets give Bama a automatic bid every year!!
