Brandon Roy is a guy I thought seriously about, especially knowing he could likely be had later in the draft

Yeah I didn’t think anyone would take him in the 3/4 turnaround. I might have been able to wait even longer but I’ve been burned by getting too greedy in recent games.

Other than having to go further down the list in terms of ranged centers than I wanted to I’ve pretty much built exactly what I had pictured from those first 2 picks.

Snakebites wrote:“Spacing is overrated” is a wild take I’m surprised to see so prominent among folks who have engaged with the last decade of NBA basketball.

I thought Stock/Malone/ANT was essentially a perfect start. Those last two picks were great talent grabs but there is a sacrifice in terms of fit that, while spacing is a big part of it, isn’t the only part.

It's also a take that seems to disregard the frequent cases when the team with better spacing loses a matchup.

I literally got swept in the first round earlier this year with a team of Luka, Bell, PG, Pierce, and Holmgren, but apparently I just imagined that.

Spacing isn’t the be all end all. The team with better spacing isn’t always the better team.

But spacing is critical. That’s been self evident from watching the real NBA for the last decade.

Hill broadly is a guy I’ve struggled to find success with, not just because he’s not an outside shooter but also because, unlike other non-shooters like Wade and Drexler, he’s seen as strictly an on-ball guy. Love that he was picked though. He’s one of my favorites. I just stopped picking him after so many of my teams with him fell flat.

I agree - and that is generally reflected in the voting.

Correct.

In fact if anything I've found a suprising amount of success with teams where I cut corners with respect to spacing a little more than I would otherwise like to do.

To me when people say "spacing is overrated" what they're really saying is "it shouldn't be a factor, why do I have to find multiple three point shooters in every lineup?". Any team under modern rules that doesn't emphasize three point shooting is likely to be behind the 8-ball in terms of scoring efficiency and fluidity of offense as a result of spacing. It's not impossible to overcome that, but it is very difficult to do so particularly in this setting where every team has at least 3-4 all star players- high talent level is a given.

I totally get that not everyone "likes" that this is the direction things have gone in- a lot of people dislike seeing teams heaving so many three pointers per game. But the stats don't care what people "like". Those stats paint an extremely clear picture- spacing/three point shooting matter. A lot.

I would have went Grant Hill in the 3rd but spacing. You're starters don't really space either. It's a good pick, but the fit is iffy.

Spacing is overrated

Edwards can shoot a three, stockton can shoot them, malone is elite from midrange out to long twos wallace is fine in the dunkers spot and hill has a great midrange jumper as well.

I agree that it is, but I always get dinged for it in write ups, if you don't have like 5 40% high volume 3 point shooters on your roster.

Me to,

To me, if elite scorers from the 80s and 90s operated in todays game they would score just as well as they did back then.

Look at guys like Wade, he was very successful in the more modern NBA.

2 points:

1) The league was very different during Wade's peak than it has been in the last 10 years. The three point trend REALLY kicked into overdrive as Wade's prime faded. I'm not implying there was a correlation there- it just happened to be around the time Wade was getting old. But it's not entirely correct to use Wade as an example here when the major changes occurred after him.

2) Lebron and Wade were successful because those teams were simply much more talented than the teams they were facing, and that overcame the fact that Lebron and Wade really weren't optimal fits with one another. It's harder to create that kind of talent separation in these games where everyone gets a pick in every round.

Wade likely could be the best player on a championship team in the modern NBA, but if he was he'd be surrounded by shooters.

All beside the point. Nobody is arguing that the guys you have on your team couldn't be successful in the NBA in a vacuum. I'd argue the opposite, Grant Hill is a big playmaker who'd be extremely successful in 2024. It's the combination people are questioning.

My team feels remarkably solid all the way around but not necessarily exceptional. The defense is elite and everyone 1-5 is a respectable 3 point shooter but I'm not sure if the base of CP3+Eddie+Scottie will be enough offensive firepower. We shall see!

There’s a center I’m surprised nobody took yet. I had hope Brook would fall because I thought he might go first.

My team feels kind of nondescript, but I'm also not sure what alternatives I would have been comfortable with.

I feel similarly, I was hoping for 6th Man Rodman as my "sexy" pick
