Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
Total raw rebounding numbers isn't any sort of true measure of how good a rebounding team you are though. They're 19th in REB% this season, and they were 5th last season. Last 4-seasons:
19th
5th
14th
12th
So yeah, last season was an outlier and I'd say they're pretty much the exact definition of a mediocre rebounding team. The Celtics in recent years are basically the poster child of why teams have generally become fine punting on rebounding in favor of playing 5-out.

Mo started at the 1 when TJ was hurt and came off the bench when he came back, then started again when TJ was traded. Redd was the 2.
There were times we tried to start 2 PGs together and other teams tried it too a lot and I just cant remember who.. just that it was common. I still think I remember Mo played at 2 for stretches next to someone... we had a midget lineup.

I bet we started some games with Boykins and Mo. I remember they played quite a bit together and it was not great.

Outlier or leaving out the whole KP thing that was the original point of my statement lol.
That’s why I’m using last year’s numbers and not this years. We cannot trot out that small ball lineup against the White, Jrue, Brown, Tatum, KP lineup. They were the best rebounders in the league per 100 last year with him because that lineup can rebound across the board.
If you want to look at this year’s numbers percentage wise we are statistically the worst offensive rebounding team in the league even though we have two seven footers in our starting lineup and we aren’t great at transition defense. Gary Trent makes everyone else on the floor look like Dennis Rodman in comparison.
This team isn’t close to having the personnel to run small ball against Boston. We just banished Grayson Allen for getting lit up by Tatum and now we’re arguing Trent, Green and Dame will work when the inevitable switch comes.

what about Dame for Butler + something?
I swear last summer I saw Jimmy fishing in shorewood on the Milwaukee river
Jimmy listed Texas and California as his preferred destinations but there’s certainly not guarantee Pat Riley gives a rats ass about that.
Khris and Jimmy would be somewhat redundant and trading Dame would leave us awfully shorthanded of any sort of playmaking guard or lead ball handler. If we could snag Herro and Jimmy together and have Herro replace Dame, you could make a lineup of Herro, Jackson Jr, Khris, Jimmy, Giannis work in closing time. I don’t think Miami bites on Dame for Jimmy and Herro but if you can make that work without giving up much more then yeah, I’d be interested in something like that too forsure.
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

Yes, Bobby and Brook have their teams they matchup really well against, but neither matches well with Boston. Moving off them could hurt us for other matchups, but Boston is the mountain that has to be climbed.
We desperately need to get quicker in space. I just rewatched the game, and so many of Boston’s buckets weren’t even well executed offensive plays - we were just slow in space and they took advantage with open threes after a single pass or blow-by’s that shouldn’t have been blown-by’s.
Like others, I’m more willing to move Bobby, because Brook is the lynchpin of our rim defense, but I’m willing to deal either or both.

Isn't the answer here mostly just that the Bucks need to play small against the Celtics? We already have a very mobile, switchable big on the roster - his name is Giannis.
The closing lineup against Boston needs to be Dame/AJ Green/Prince/Middleton/Giannis. That matches their shooting and gives us a defensive lineup that can switch and not get killed by Horford/KP pick and pops.
My focus in the trade market would be on adding a big wing that can defend Tatum and/or play some small ball 4.
The problem with that lineup is we can’t rebound the ball and it doesn’t keep Giannis out of foul trouble since he’d be the only guy remotely capable of defending the rim. We need a mobile 5. Keep Giannis at the 4 to take the pressure off of him.
If Boston has a healthy KP (which is equal odds for us having healthy Midds at this point) they probably sweep us. Right now they likely win in 5 or 6.
Rim protection not as important against a team that's going to shoot 50 3s and Giannis doesn't need to be coddled inside against a Horford and Porzingis interior. We should be playing small ball Giannis C lineups more often and definitely against Boston where having more guys on the floor that can move on the perimeter is more important

Dame/Trent/Andre/Khris/Giannis
Dame/Trent/Khris/Prince/Giannis
I basically view it as this team needing to figure out who their small-ball 4 is. Khris, Prince, or somewhat of a wild card here, Andre. And if that guy isn't on the roster, that's where you need to go out and get the mobile PF/C dude on the trade market.
But no lineups with our best SG, AJ Green? Is that because you cut him to pick up Reggie Bullock?

Sure, Dame to Miami, Jimmy to Houston, Eason to the Bucks while Houston sends players and picks to Nets to route Cam Johnson and Schroder to the Bucks.

Does John Schuhmann think Prince is a point guard or something? What a weird thing for him to care about.

I don’t get why you keep using per-100 rebounding stats because that’s a completely pace reliant number that doesn’t really mean anything, but if you think that we can’t run a small-ball crew against Boston, then I have no idea how you otherwise expect to beat them. It shouldn’t be rocket science when you already have the most defensively versatile 4/5 in the league.

They basically tell Prince to sit in the corner and shoot threes when they pass the ball to him.
