Draft Games Perfect Pairs…..

Post#1 » by MadNESS » Thu Dec 12, 2024 1:06 pm

Noticed that Billups keeps getting matched with MJ and I thought to my self that is literally the perfect back court. Perfect match.

I also think Giannis / KAT is the perfect match.

Name others that you enjoy seeing!

Curry Draymond of course, but I also like Curry Hill or Curry Butler.

Anyhow, I also saw Billups Kobe a lot which is similar to Billups MJ / Porter Kobe.

Yeah Stockton and Malone but they played together in real life. I like pairs that never played together but we know they’d be a perfect match.

Curry / Shaq is great.

Giannis-KAT is a perfect match on offense. Not so much on defense. Giannis is at this best when operating as a free safety, hence he needs a rim protector to have his back in the paint. That's not KAT who's better suited in a switch-heavy scheme. In fact, KAT is allowing 66.3% at the rim this season and 45.7% in the paint. In comparison, 36-year-old Brook Lopez is allowing 62% at the rim and 43.6% in the paint. Personally, I'd opt for prime Horford or 2024 Porzingis next to Giannis. Likewise, I'd rather have Stockton over Billups with MJ. Billups provides more firepower, whereas Stockton is a superior supporting player. Both are great choices. An even better match is obviously Steph. Can't realistically pair him with MJ, but he might be an option with Kobe.

Some other frequently used combos:
- Jokic with Kirilenko
- Harden or Luka with George or Tatum
- I'm always targeting Klay when drafting Steph. Don't really care about Draymond tbh.

Why not just do a perfect pairs draft?

No limit on MVP or All NBA or anything. Just a dream pairing.

I also say do duplicate players for the first 2 rounds if wanted.

Meaning 4 teams could have Jordan, screw it. First 2 rounds are pairs, last 4 rounds are single players, no all nba winners maybe?

It’s not specific players, it’s archetypes.

Ball dominant shooting guards like Kobe and MJ play well with point guards who are less dominant and shoot.

Big slow ball handlers like Luka, Harden, Magic pair well with guys who can shoot and handle POA defense.

Elite P/R guys like those guys above (plus Nash, CP, etc) pair great with elite roll men.

Jokic (he’s his own archetype) is invariably matched with a mobile rim protecting power forward and often a ranged playmaker.

Etc

There should be a more well refined criterion, so we don't deal with whether some pair qualifies or not through discussion.

Also:
- ideally everyone tries to create the perfect pairings each draft
- if someone wants to try and compete with a less orthodox pairing, he should be able to do so in every draft

No if duplicated players are disallowed.

Ie: I believe tha Jordan and Hakeem are a perfect pairing
You beleive Jordan and Billups
Someone else believes Hakeem and Chris Paul
