Hali vs Maxey.

The gap was close and there’s a case for taking Maxey last season.

Bring back BBall Paul!

He was good last year. How does he go from quality backup to washed in less than a year? Seemed like our lowest risk signing.

I think Drummond is fine if in a 20 minute role with good defenders around him. I used to think backup would be more Caleb and Oubre and George with Maxey and Drummond during the off season with some Lowry minutes too. Drummond will never be a great defender, even though he can do some things. Like get a few blocks, steals and just take up space and of course rebound.

He’s not that good—he’s just having a hot game, and our defense on him has been subpar.

He doesn’t meet Morey’s standards for what defines a star.

He probably performed analytics on shooting motion after Ben Simmons and decided Halliburton was MCW

Penetrating too easy... All early offense for pacers. Sixers look worn out

Outside of Maxey, probably our best driver offensively. Needs to get more minutes, especially when we’re in a rut

Haliburton isn’t as good as he’s hyped up to be. He’s essentially just a different flavor of Dejounte Murray—whom this board admired.

I get it Nurse, but with George and Ricky and Kmart.... You can play more Yabu.

Don't bench him

Then, all of a sudden, he stopped getting calls. So, he decided to perm his hair, adding a bit of flair to his falls in an attempt to convince the refs.

Could he have been any worse? I just needed him to show up for playoff games.

KJ splashing corner 3’s is a useful player.

I think they’re both fine. They’re just making the most of whats handed to them. It’s just that this is the MO of the team.

Morey wasn’t handed any of this. He gave George the massive contract. Gave Embiid a massive extension. And he selected the rest of the roster. I was on record as not wanting to sign George because I didn’t think he would get passed the second round. I get it because I didn’t have a better suggestion, but Morey angled for two years to clear this cap space to chase some aging stars, and I was excited about the roster when the season started. The ceiling for this group is really high, but the chances of it working out were always slim. Morey has us locked into two guys who are only going to decline, and year one is off to a nightmare start.

This isn’t like Derrick Rose having a catastrophic injury that you chalk up to bad luck. The George and Embiid outcomes were largely predictable. Embiid couldn’t even jump at the end of last season, only played 31 games, looked injured in the playoffs, and Morey locks him up through 28-29. George has been slightly declining the last few years. He can still play, but this is about what you get at this point in his career. I think he still has some gas in the tank if we get to some important games.

Morey made a gamble with George and Embiid that was high-risk-high-reward, so we can’t say “making the most” of what he was dealt. He chose the this hand.
