Re: Potential Zach Trade Partners? 24/25 Edition
Wonder if MPJ would be able to level up here and be a good trade chip at the draft.
I think he’s a good fit in DET right now.
Magic for Isaac. They are the worst 3pt shooting in the league.
Indiana needs help.
CHA could use him.
Clipps. MIN. MEM?

For the Bulls it wouldn’t do much but saving 8 mil is not bad for starters. Then MPJ is 3 years younger and 6”10 as he would help with bulls lack of size. Other than that talent wise they are similar level players.
Why is MPJ so important for Denver? Zach does what he does and more.
At least this trade would relieve some of the backcourt glut.
He’s been big for them and great complimentary role player/starter.
Dont get me wrong Zach is capable of doing even better but let’s not forget they would be bringing him there to be the #3 option behind Jokic and Murray.
Fit is always a question and can back fire on them. I see it as a risk but they are at a point where they feel like they need to shake things up. It might make them better or worse, IF they do it time will tell.

And create a front court glut with Pat Buz MPJ Giddey and Philipps at the 3/4
That's not that bad.
Considering the Bulls currently have LaVine, Coby, Ayo, Carter, Ball, THT and potentially Giddey in the backcourt.
Here to argue about nonsensical things and suck away your joy.

DET could really make something work…
THJ 16M expiring
Beef Stew 15M two more seasons
Fontecchio 8M one more season
Ausar 8M
Holland 8M
They can also absorb I believe 8M in salary. I like how MPJ fits their timeline. They need shooting in a bad way. Ivey Cade MPJ Harris Duren makes the playoffs.

You sure Murray is still second option material? Dude hasn't been the same since Nuggets last championship run. I don't think Jokic need a clear cut second option material. He just needs more weapon to make the team more difficult to guard.
Zach has shown nothing but being a model professional in his time here. After the bad phase last year, I've been very impress with how he comes back this year with a great attitude. I think if Zach ends up in Denver he's going to make a lot of people eat crows.

Centers like Jokic need good backline defenders to help protect the rim, which allows Jokic to defend higher up on screens. MPJ, Gordon, and Watson play this role for Denver. Similarly, Houston surrounded Sengun with Eason, Amen, and Smith.

Isn't MPJ a horrendous defender? Like worse than LaVine.

MPJ isn't protecting the rim.

He's been around league average for the last 2-3 years. A bad on-ball defender but a solid help defender. MPJ being better or worse than Lavine is dependent on the defensive scheme and team needs. Neither is as bad defensively as their reputations.

I'm not saying he's Jaren Jackson Jr. but he's still a good athlete at 6'10 and knows how to rotate. Take MPJ off the Nuggets and the only playoff caliber players that are taller than 6'6 are Gordon and Watson.

Any contract less in years than Zack’s contract is a good trade. No draft picks is fine.

Re: Potential Zach Trade Partners? 24/25 Edition
I didn't realize how much Porter makes. He's clearly not an upgrade to Zach, so I think we need to structure to get Strawher or a 1st back in the deal (likely from a 3rd team).
What's clear is that any Zach deal is likely to bring back a differently flawed player and maybe non-lotto or distant 1sts.
Are we in a better place with Zach or BI, Zion, or Porter? Maybe change for change sake helps somehow.

MPJ’s contract is the same length.

Agreed. At least less in contract value and a younger prospect. I would flip Potter for cap relief and picks if possible.

Ideal trade is Bulls get Starwher or a future 1st without taking back Nnaji. They include Craig in the deal.
Send MPJ to a 3rd team for two smaller contracts and a young player or a 1st.
Bulls should come out with two smaller contracts expiring no later than Zach’s and 2 assets. Either 1sts or young players.
Then you have some flexibility moving fwd with more trades due to the smaller more moveable contracts and future 1sts.

I get that but I worry that MPJ will be harder to move than Zach. He's younger, but there are about the same injury concerns. Also, he's a 3rd option scorer, so you could make the argument that he's even more overpaid as a 3rd option than Zach is as a 2nd option.
